pickups to get for my project strat

i just bought an 80's MIJ strat body (pretty sure it's an alder body) on ebay (has a kahler spyder on it and such). it's missing the pickups and pickguard at the moment (also no neck- prolly gonna go with a warmoth maple/rosewood of some sort: a side question is would a warmoth neck fit a mij body) so i figured id throw some new pickups once i started working on it.

it's router for s/s/s and i probally wont end up butchering the body to rerout it. ive been thinking of something like a jb jr/hot rails/jb jr (or even a super disto s/air norton sx2) for a really metal/heavy sounding guitar. my white strat doesnt do extremely heavy too well, not enough oomph or the sound i like (The one with lace sensors).

basically as always i want something that can do whatever i need with i need it but with an emphasis on the really thick, heavy distorted sound (i dont mind amp tweaking and that to get the right sound) but somethng with a bit more oomph, while still sounding stratty.

and yeah of course pictures will be going up once i finish this bad boy in the guitar forum, and yeah it's gonna look real nice

Re: pickups to get for my project strat

im gonna bump this and also state for those who don' tnow
my major influences are as follows
randy rhoads, james dean bradfield, billy corgain (my white strat is actually a tribute to him in a way), dave mustaine, angus young, billy joe armstrong, johnny ramone, charlie christian, django reinhardt (although the last two can be disreguarded for this as my white strat can do jazz pretty well).

so what do you guys think

Re: pickups to get for my project strat

For heaviness, go for the JB jr in the bridge or Blackouts if you want to stay with SD, for Dimarzio, go for the Tone Zone strat bridge.

Re: pickups to get for my project strat

For some reason, I wanna suggest some Rails. Maybe I just have Zappa on my sleep-deprived brain, since his Strat sound is nothing like what you want. They feel plenty Stratty to me, though.

bump to get more ideas thanks for the ones so far

Re: pickups to get for my project strat

For what you want I'd suggest a Hot Rails in the bridge, and a Lil 59 for the neck. I'd steer clear of a Hot Rails middle, or any other hot or stacked single coil for the middle. What's the point? You're gonna have two hot-ish pups in the bridge and middle. Even metal does quiet song sections! And with a vintage single coil in the middle you can get close to a true strat tone in the notch positions. Think about coil splits for that.

Hot Rails bridge
SSL-1 middle
Lil 59 neck

Of course the full Rails setup would be nice, HR/VR/CR. Or the JBjr/Duckbucker/Lil59 route would work as well.

I'm partial to the Hot Rails bridge for thick, heavy bridge tones. What exactly are you looking for in the neck?

+1. The only variation on that theme that I'd suggest would be a cool rails or duckbucker in the middle, if you wanted hum cancelling. The SSL-1 would give the truest vintage tone, though.
