Hey guys, everything good around the SD world ???
great, i´m trying to get my own sound and for that i´m thinking of getting new pickups, i have a ibanez grg 370, h-s-h, locking tremolo, solid body, i have a peavey xxl head and a smarvo 412 cab, and using a boss gt6 too, i play mostly metal, all kinds of it, so my pickup choice are the SH-5 for the bridge and SH-6n for the neck, but middle dont know, what do you guys think???
cheers

I'd say a JB JR or Hot Rails, and you'll be set.

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

I SAY : CHANGE THIS GUITAR. THE WOODS propably will not ANSWER to the pickups.
Q:/
i had this problem with a jackson made in malasya.

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

Welcome to the forum :)

I have an Ibanez RG 570 with an Invader (bridge) and am looking at either a Hot Rails or a Scorcher (cheapo hot rails).

WFD: Low end Jacksons are junk. They're higher up stuff is among the best there is, but I had a Performer series, and had nothing but problems. IMO, cheap Ibanez guitars are much higher quality than cheap Jacksons. I've played the RG 370, and its pretty sweet.

I agree with the JB Jr. I have one in the middle pos. of my strat. Nice pup. My personal choice for that guitar would be a dimebucker/JB Jr./Full Shred. However, if you're set on the custom for the bridge you'll probally like it. Nice pup for metal tones.

I think this is a drastic step and don't really see the reasoning behind it, a whle new set of pickups will probably make this guitar sound awesome, if the correct set are chosen.

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

I really love the JB/jazz set, seems to be just the right amount of everything except maybe low end girth from the JB? this is not really a huge deal and the JB has so many other great things about it that a little prob like Not bassy enough really does not bother me anymore.
the JB really is the consumate bridge pup and the jazz is a perfect mate to it. :32:

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

well i haven´t play any jackson´s except for a charvel oldie... nice stuff.
well i pick the Custom coz sure i play metal but not always at home i like many stuff zz top to van halen.... you know about the woods i´ve read that my Ibanez is quite built and sounds average. my teacher has an ibanez RG 550 EX i think is a 90´s model but the body wood is the same as mine except for the neck and fretboard.
for middle pick i was thinking of a nice warm and not to beeffy pup, but with no hum or something like it... you know

You need a Cool Rails in there, my friend.

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

Screamin' Demon for the bridge
JB Jr for the middle
Whatever you want for the neck

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

Does the guitar come with a transluscent finish? My friend has an Ibanez GRX40 (S-S-H) 2004 model with a transluscent red finish. It can be seen that it has a 3-piece alder body. We changed the bridge Powersound to a JB and it had a really noticeable difference. He had the cheap "linear taper" (spelling?) tone and volume pots changed and I wouldn't be exaggerating if it was more resonant than the cheap Korean Jems (a friend who had it refinished said the body was 6-piece) we tested. Although the JB was impressive, I would prefer a Breed set for neck and bridge on Ibanez guitars.

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

Resonant ??? what do you mean...? my was made in korea too, it has a basswood body and for the neck i dont have nay info... on the page only says GRG neck and shows the dimensions, the only thing i know about the neck is that the fretboard is rosewood. the finish is transparent black, maple flamed.
i have another question, i was measuring the pups with the dimensions that are avaible on the site and comparing to the ones that i have, and the ibanez pups are smaller than the SD´s, is that a problem ???
should i take notice of that before i buy them, i´m going for the Custom for the bridge with trembucker spacing and distortion for the neck, maybe on the future i´ll buy a middle wich i not use that much...

Re: Pickups upgrade for Metal madness !

Don't worry about the size. Ibanez routes their cavities big enough to drop any aftermarket in.

The resonance is the body/neck's (all wood parts) natural ability to vibrate at certain frequencies. It plays a large role in the sustain and tone of the instrument.
