My question for you is whether you can still work the Tone knob in the bridge position without losing all the highs. Or, is the AII 50th bridge at the right treble EQ on 10? If so, would I need the A5 to better work the tone knob?

If you're looking for an exact tone, it's kind of hard to answer, since it's all subjective. If I had my choice, I'd have the AII bridge and the A5 neck, but they're sold as sets, so I couldn't. I think an A5 Seth is like an Antiquity, so it's really a matter of buying pickups, using them with your rig, then changing them for something else, if they don't nail the tone. I've had to do that with lots of pickups, but I'm not chasing a particular tone......usually just trying to find a pickup that reacts the best with my fingers and amp.

Re: Picture of a LP with 50th Anniversary Engraved Seths

I just ordered the 50th Anniversary Seths to replace the EMGs in my SG standard. Musician's friend is now selling both the A2 and A5 sets for $200. Although I am not crazy about the engravings, I figured that this was an opportunity to get a set of custom shop MJ wound pickups for the price of the regular ones. I had a very difficult time deciding on the A2 or the A5 set. I learned that SG's can really benifit from the extra bass of the A5's; however, I finally settled on the A2 set because I wanted to try something different (all of my other pickups have been A5s). Another factor in my decision was the fact that many senior members prefer A2 magnets in PAFs and I really respect their opinion. I also liked the sound clips of the Seths more than the 59s (which I figured the A5 seths would sound more like) although the guitar being used was a Les Paul and not an SG. I am really hoping to nail classic rock tones like GnR, Van Halen, and ACDC through my JCM 800.

The 50th Anniversary Engraved Seths with the A5 magnets (my Avatar) sound like a slighty hotter, and perhaps a little warmer version of a stock '59.
These are in a Les Paul, and I must say are quickly becoming my favorite pickup. Just the right amount of everything, lows are punchy, mids are present, and the highs ring.

The only problem that some might have with this pickup is that it's not as smooth as alnico 2 pickups I've tried. These A5 Seths are simply more aggressive. (Not sure if I would like these in a Strat though.)

Thank you. That is very helpful. Remember that if you don't like the AII's, you can always send them back to Duncan for a magnet swap. :)

I will likely do that if the AII's don't work out. It is better than returning and reordering the set.
