Pignose

Guitaris Maximus
I did not know this bit of information...

Pignose Industries, started by guitarist Terry Kath and other members and associates of the band Chicago in 1972, introduced to the music industry at the 1973 Summer NAMM show - the "Legendary" Pignose Amplifier. Humor is a big part of the Pignose phenomenon.

Re: Pignose

Where did you find that? I knew my man Terry was an early endorser and had a hand in the deisgn of the Pignose, but I didn't know he started the company.

Re: Pignose

Terry Kath & friends started Pignose? Cool! Now if only someone can create a decent battery-powered amp for bass...

Re: Pignose

I was in high school when Chicago Transit Authority issued their first album - Terry was the only guitar player who had any chance of keeping up with Jimi Hendrix and his vibe was so, so much better than Clapton, Beck, and Plant to those in high school listening to that upstart FM radio...

Good lord, I am old!

Hendrix himself said Kath was "...better than me." Carnegie Hall is my all-time favorite album - so much killer guitar on there.

Re: Pignose

I was in a Grand Central Station, in NYC, in about 1980 ( ? ) when I heard what must have been a Pignose, from a guy trying to live off the change people threw into his guitar case. There is no recording studio, or venue, that can produce the kind of accoustics you can get surrounded by concrete and graffitti, 300 feet below New York City, with a Pignose turned to full squeal. The guy was OK, but the tone was outrageous. I have one now, but can't get around to keeping track of battery life propperly, and keep getting nailed for 40 bucks worth of batteries.

Spend $20 on a charger and some Nimh batteries. I can't believe how long they last in my Pignose (almost as long as alkaline), and you can recharge them over and over again. The nimh battery technology is much better than nicad.

Re: Pignose

wow. didn't know that about the connection. kath was amazing. i just got into old chicago last year. his tone with the SG is insane. too bad he died so young.

Re: Pignose

I got one of those old pignoses from the 70s. What a cool amp. Can be used as a preamp as well. I traded a Morley wah for it in 1980.
