Pimp my PRS

I have a stock '04 PRS cu24 with birds and trem. I want to change something's around. I haven't started on anything yet. I made a list though that I think it's a good place to start.

First, I need to change the saddles to Graph Tech.
Second, I want to upgrade from the rotary to a three way toggle switch. I found a kit for $60
Third, new tuners. I prefer the older "winged" type. (hard to find but well worth it) the new stock "Phase II" are weak
Fourth, not sure about the pickups. The HFS is all that and more, maybe switch it out to a Zebra HFS for looks
Fifth, miscellaneous things like knobs, pickup rings and trust rod cover

That's all I know to change.
Anything else I should take in consideration, things like under the hood for say?
Any advice or recommendations ARE WELCOMED!

I got some ideas from Ed Roman's web site as well. By the way is this company legit? The 1500 G Neck Mod looks interesting.

I have never done business with Ed Roman, nor do I plan on doing so. His CS is supposedley the worst in the world. no lie. From all the reports he gets it's really a wonder he's still in business....

I'm consistently confounded by you folks that drop that sort of cake on an isntrument and can still manage to not get exactly what you want.

You say that like every conceivable combination exists from the mfg..... PRS doesn't offer duncans from the factory for example

So its OK to mod cheap stuff? Why don't those folks get it right from the beginning? A lot more choices in the lower end guitars.

Damn! I think I get the point.

The saddles are a must cause I'm popping strings at every gig. Changing to 10's didn’t help. My older PRS, knock on wood, is much more dependable and have never broken a string during a show, and of course I always put on a fresh set before every show, 6 to 10 gigs a month.

The rotary sucks. Why PRS came up with this in the first place is mind-boggling.
Same for the new Phase II tuners. The older worked much better and much faster to change strings.

Everything else might be tacky and ya’ll are right about the Cadillac.

I've found that a cool color combination can really change a guitars looks. For example my CU24 came with black pups. :p I changed to white.

Now I've also got a 3 way switch on mine.

Also take a look at the PRS kit from www.rsguitarworks.com

I also took 0000 steel wool to my fingerboard and smoothed it out. I hate the way new RW feels. I also took it to the edges of the board to give it a rolled/smooth feel.

You could also try a bone nut, but that's going to change the tone, and probably the intonation since I think Paul's nuts have some built in compensation.

The compensation is in where the nut is placed, not the nut itself. That wouldn't be a problem with replacing the nut

I can't comment for everyone, but I would definitely ignore Ed Roman. His comment on 22/24 fret versus neck pickup is unwarranted (as I own both a Strat and a LP-wanna-be). Graphtech is worth the money, in my opinion: you can see the strings not bind on the trem (i.e. on my strat). I'd also recommend an earvana nut if you can find one that will work on yours. As for the non-rotary thing, if it floats your boat, should be all right. As for pickups, I wouldn't mess with them if it's only how they look: not worth the money as it gets above $20. If it's mahogany body, mahogany neck, and rosewood fretboard, just my 2 cents, I'd put the Hot Rodded combo in it and wire up the split abilities (since this is my favorite combination due to it's insane versatility). As for pickup covers, however, nickel plated might look awesome!

The PRS nut is already compensated, The Earvana nut will probably cause intonation problems as you are doubling up the concept
