Pinch harmonics

Diocletian

This is for people who ask "What pickup do I need to do pinch harmonics".

I recorded this using Toneport, a setting with not a huge amount of gain (it's my normal hard rock go-to setting).

First is a JB. Second is a single coil from a Squier strat, in the neck position, and it's so far away from the strings you wouldn't believe it. It's under a plastic cover and I'd estimate the poles are about between 7mm and 12mm away from the strings, seriously. I just put it in for clean chimey stuff.

Both pickups are in the same guitar. (Jackson Kelly)

Obviously the first one brings them out more, but the clip shows if you use the right technique, you can do pinch harmonics on anything.

Re: Pinch harmonics

Nicely done, man. I can't play PHs to save my life but I guess nothing I've ever written or tried to play has ever really called for them, apart from the odd Tom Morello squealy.

Also post number 6660. Nice timing indeed.

Re: Pinch harmonics

Maybe the issue for people having problems is dirty strings?

I would imagine dirty cruddy strings wouldn't be as bright as new strings, but I'm just guessing.

Pinch harmonics come easy to me on any axe I play, but I don't have dirty strings.

You only play really expensive axes anyway, so I'd imagine every note you play sounds awesome.
