What a blast building EXACTLY what you want in a guitar....

2-piece Mahogany body
1/4" Flamed Koa top
Ivoroid body binding
2-piece Mahogany neck with 13* peghead (handcarved 1" at 12th fret > .925" at 1st fret)
Figured walnut fingerboard
1/8" Koa headcap
MOP Monogram Inlay on headcap
Shaller tuners with Ebony buttons
Bone nut
Schaller Roller bridge and STP
SD Triple Shot pup rings
Jazz - Neck
JB - Bridge
Clear nitro-cellulose lacquer buffed to "flat-as-glass" finish!!!

Re: Pix of the Flamed Koa LP clone I built at RV!!!

My girlfriend doesn't play but she works at a guitar shop with me

showed her the close-up of the top and her jaw dropped and eyes went wide :smokin:

GREAT work dude. Looks amazing. Never seen flamed koa before.

Looks fantastic...no, it looks friggin awesome!

not sure I've heard about using walnut for a fretboard though, what are the advantages?

Re: Pix of the Flamed Koa LP clone I built at RV!!!

Amazing man. how did you like the school? i was thinking about going.

Re: Pix of the Flamed Koa LP clone I built at RV!!!

Did you carve the top at all? I can't tell from the pictures if it's a flat-top or not.

If it is a carved top, did you start with something like 3/4" of Koa and carve it down?

Re: Pix of the Flamed Koa LP clone I built at RV!!!

Travis, I enjoyed the school TWICE... Well, ALMOST.... I made it 12-weeks last spring, but had to medically withdraw... I returned from day one of Fall Semester to learn even more...

Immortal, no it's not carved... we had to follow a small set of rules, and carving was a no-go on student instruments... My next electric will be a PRS/McCarty style carved top hollow body...

Thanks to all for the compliments... I just wanted to share pics with my forum brethern, but I have to say the compliments ROCK as well!!!

Later,
Allen

Walnut is similar to Rosewood in density, so it's softer than Ebony... The reason I chose the Walnut is because it's highly figured, but is subtle with Tung Oil... It's one of those small details that draws a Wow factor without being able to identify WHY!

Thanks again,
Allen

I hear you on that - love it!

Also, on the carved top thing - thanks for answering. The Koa looks great, and the finish is excellent

Looks great! I built a guitar with a flamed Koa body, but it was from Warmoth. I'd love to learn to actually build guitars, someday.

It looked almost exactly like Warren DeMartini's Performance guitar-

That's outstanding. Just pure excellance and...class, I think is the word I'm looking for.

The walnut's a really nice touch and something I wouldn't even have thought of. And, of course, the wood grain on the body is breathtaking. Really, really nice job, dude.
