Too sick of chinese MDF... Bugera 6262 is getting rehoused asap. 3/4" Baltic birch if I can find the decent stuff, or maybe Krank-style solid poplar (1") if I can't. Or, without getting into the hardwood/marine ply debate, would oak planks be better (than poplar, for same sizing), durability and sound wise?

Bit concerned about durability due to additional weight of Celestion speaker swap (v30/c90 pair adds 15+ lbs weight, easy, over the light stock speakers), want a choice of ply/wood that'll hold em up just fine and not cave under the weight.

Got the rest all measured out, but not sure about cab depth...original enclosure is 9.5", so should I go to 10", or bump it up to 12" figuring more space wouldnt hurt?

... Btw, that's with a planned move from open cabinet to 7" half-closed & making the cab 1" higher for better access to speakers & to provide adequate ventilation for the tubes. New design is braced screw&glue butt joint (no tools for finger/dovetail), with more and better bracing than the Bugera had. And then it's getting leatherette instead of crappy wannabe-tolex.

Oh yeah, cuz the usual "LTD into 6505" approach makes SOOO much more sense than my "ESP into 6262-gradually-modded" way

Circuits are circuits, not musical instruments... China can handle ripping off an amp just fine. Everybody builds there anyway, some of peaveys real (and actually also ripped off, twice) 6505's are made there too.

Swap out crap components where they cut costs, done. Its a 6505+. Or better, on account of all that v30/c90 action.

Also... Should I come to realize the wisdom of your reasoning, I can just unfasten six screws, pop the bugera back into its ancestral home, and sell it...and then pop in any of a number of heads into this monster combo of mine :-)

Btw, the final spec was 12" deep birch ply semi-closed cab. All bought and ready for assembly. I do looove me a diy project
