played a 57 Fender Tweed Twin reissue

Re: played a 57 Fender Tweed Twin reissue

thank God!

I was afraid I was going to have to start saving for the tweed Twin. ... now, I only have to save for the tweed Pro! :D

I personally haven't tried one of these amps out yet, but neither of the two people I know who have thought much of it. In fact, one amp had serious flaws straight from the factory.

and it was rather underwhelming... my mission amps tweed pro kit blows it away.

Cool . . . one more tidbit of info that makes my Mission selection easier to make.

Now . . . the 5E3 or the Scholar??? :laugh2:

Artie, I do not know anything at all about the Scholar. It might really be the bee's knees or the cat's pajamas or whatever you come up with, but if you are only considering building it because it is easier (maybe I'm really wrong on this one), please remember the 5E3 is a pretty darn easy amp.

I wish everyone of you could build one of these. It is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much damn fun. And, you end up with an instant classic. It will be like your first born if you have kids. If you don't have kids, it will become your first born! You willl never be able to sell it. It will follow you around the rest of your life. You will pass it on to your grandkids one day and tell them that "I made this". You will gain instant respect and increased stature in the eyes of all those youngun's that will only know a world on Nimbimbo and other integrated circuits. You should hear my highschool musician nephew telling his buds about how I make my own amps. I've entered near god status with that kid. I've got buddies that are not guitar buffs at all and see me working on a freaking 50's tube amp and they are amazed.

Truly I am amazed because I don't know squat. I connect the stupid wires where Bruce tells me to! After my second build and one refurb of an old Fender, I am just starting to learn what goes where and why. The other day, Bruce had to tell me where the NFB resistor was. Heck, I didn't have a clue there were TWO in my Tweed Pro!

There, my secret is out. I'm a complete amp idiot that has lucked into three straight successful builds. :) don't tell anyone. :newangel:

hahahahahahahahahaha! I'm more like a roll your own connect the dots builder!

Truth be told, I think if i had the trannies and the chassis, I could do it all on my own now with just a layout from the Fender Amp Field Guide. But don't ask me to read a schematic. I'll fail miserably.

Wow i am inspired. I am thinking I would like to try one. Maybe a 5E3 with a 12" and a 10".

Let's see, I'll try to work from memory as I buy and sell so much stuff, I have to write it down somewhere. Cab 250-275 and it's nice! Speaker JBL D130F recone by Weber total 170. Kit... here's where I really do forget as it's been so long ago. It was a bit more than the 5E3 kit, but I upgraded both the transformers.

I can state for a fact, that I have significantly less invested monetarily than $1000. Also, I could have gotten a cheaper cab by visiting the Weber cab makers quote request thing. And, I could have spent half as much on the speaker and gotten a new Eminence or a Weber California 15.

So, if you went with standard trannies and went shopping for speaker and cab, you could do it for 800 bucks I'm guessing. Just send an email to Bruce and ask him what his 5E5A kit will sell for.

Weber has a kit that sells for less than 500, complete, but I just looked over the layout and it lacks the adjustable bias for one. Not sure what else it lacks to be frank. didn't look that long.

I really want to talk to someone that has built both a Mission kit and a weber kit. THe support for the weber is much lower, limited to web help only from what I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong) and there are things you have to do to the chassis to get it ready for the build. Bruce's chassis have everything punched out and ready, including welded-on threaded nuts for all the tube sockets and transformers. I'm still not sure how Weber can sell for that price unless it's just all about volume.
