Played a Stilletto the other day

Forgot to mention I sat down with the new Mesa Stilletto head into a 4x12 Recto cab. Sounds great. Way more switch options than I can remember but I was using "Crunch" in the 50wt mode and even at a fairly low volume had some real credible tone (gain about 1/2, volume about 1/4). I would be really interested in opening one up and seeing what it can really put out. I was surprised that it had no reverb, didn't ask the price I was guitar shopping and I don't need another amp   Did I just say that? :laugh2:

They have to ditch the hideous blistered leather look though, oh God it looks like it has been water damaged, then shellaced.

Re: Played a Stilletto the other day

I tried out one yesterday. Pretty cool amp. A few points that I thought were notable. 50w/100w switch for each channel. It didn't really change the volume of the amp, but it did change the way the amp reacted to playing at that particular volume setting. The clean channell has a fatclean, tite clean, and crunch setting. the dirty channel has a crunch setting, tite gain, and a fluid drive setting. I mostly used the fat clean, and the fluid drive on the 50w setting. I liked the amp. Had marshal undertones to it, but some of the mesa sound was there also. It is an amp that I could have walked up to dialed in a setting and played a gig with easily. There are a few amps that I can't say that about. This was an easy amp to play. It has a nice bottom end, and rich mids. Another cool thing with this amp is it's bold/spongy switch. It has kind of a variac function so i understand. I liked the spongy setting. I tried a RMC wah out in it and a HAO boost style effect pedal. Amp was great. when turned up a bit, it displayed nice harminics, and had tone that was very warm/rich. I would have to say that I did not like the leather alligator finish. I would have rather seen it in a canefront or something or other. Overall 7.5 to 8 out of 10. i would have liked to spend another hour with the amp. Oh ya, price was about 1500. that means 1200-1300 cash.
