Played my first Two-Rock today

Holy hell, I've got major GAS! I played a Two-Rock Classic head today and was floored. I barely even knew the name until today. What made me plug into it was the $2500 price tag on an amp that looks kind of like a Ceriatone. I think it's 20w, but it was plenty loud through the Fender 2x12 (V30's). The reason why it beats the hell out of many amps is not just the tone or that the reverb is incredible, but even though it's not a gainy amp, it makes up for it with an amazing touch response.

Many other high price boutique amps sound kind of nasally and flubby in the bass, but that little Two-Rock head was fairly tight. With the way it reacts to touch, I can see that little amp doing some awesome rock lead tones with an overdrive pedal.

I know there are a ton of expensive boutique amps out there but these Two-Rocks really have something to them. It's not just because they sound so awesome. It's also because they react exquisitely to your touch, and the controls interact nicely. It was really easy to adjust the EQ and get exactly the sound I was looking for. For a small amp head, it sure had a lot of headroom. I had it cranked all the way up with a Gibson Les Paul standard and it still had ample headroom. That 20 watts is pretty powerful. I can see it being perfect for most bar gigs.

I wish they weren't so incredibly expensive because they invoke such intense GAS that it's hard to bear. I have to be honest with you because I can't remember the last time I had such a great experience playing with only a little gain.

Did I mention that the reverb was killer? I didn't have a lot of time to explore the features, but it was a pretty straightforward amp. It had a contour control that worked nicely. I'm not sure how the send/receive controls work for the reverb. It also had a pickup balancing control on the back panel but I don't know what it's for. It seemed to add fatness to the tone, but I just left it around the middle position.

It's cool that you got to try a very expensive amp and came away with an appreciation of what it's all about rather than walking away wondering why anyone would "waste" their money!

Even though that little 20 watt amp head is $2000, it has a lot to offer. It's loud, it has such incredible tone, and it has reverb and an extra EQ control which many expensive boutique amps don't have. It's really not a bad price with all things considered.

This video does a pretty good job of showing the clean tone, but with a humbucker guitar and boost, it has an amazing lead tone.

2500? When did they drop in price? I had a Custom Reverb one time for about a year maybe? it was a very cool amp, no doubt. Just couldn't justify the dollars I had invested in it for my limited needs. I actually met those guys and hung out at their shop one day a few years back. Very nice guys. Great amps.

I refuse to pay over $1000 for an amp ever again. Too many other things in my life where thw money can be put to better use. With that in mind are there are any used that go for under a $1000?

Used 2 rocks? Nope. But tons of great tube amps out there for less than a grand.

Two Rocks are great. Years ago when I was really on a tone hunt I'd go to some local boutique places and try out all the high end gear. One of the amps that floored me was a Custom Reverb half stack. I loved the touch sensitivity and the cleans were warm and detailed. It didn't quite have the aggressiveness that I wanted at the time and the cleans weren't my benchmark Fender or Vox, but it was a really unique sounding amp.
