please critique my rig. i'm into zakk wylde, paul gilbert, steve vai, killswitch engage, george lynch. i guess i'm going for a mixture of 80's shred with a bit more heaviness added to it.

guitar: esp ec1000 with emg's or something similar

head: blackstar ht-20

cab: randall 2x12 with 25 watt greenbacks (i get to return this tomorrow because the ohms don't match my head)

pedals in front, in order: Digitech XMS Compressor, Digitech Bad Monkey Overdrive

pedals in loop, in order: Fish n Chips Eq, MXR M-135 Smart Gate, Deltalab Digital Delay

Any Suggestions or Tips?

nothin wrong with any of that gear

you could always replace the budget-but-good-enough pedals for boutique and replace the Blackstar with an Orange that costs twice as much and replace the ESP with a real Les Paul that's got EMGs in it

but if it's not broken you can't really fix it

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Yeah. The only thing I'd say, peronally, is get a real Les Paul. The EC-1000s are, in my experience, more like an SG and don't sound like real Les Pauls. That maple cap and big ol' mahogany body work wonders.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

this is a bit odd...but the dude from Killswitch puts a ts808 in the fx loop and leaves it (more or less) permanantly on.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

What can I say that hasn't already been said?

If you like the EC, keep it!

I'd get a Les Paul custom and put emgs in it though..

Re: Please Critique My Rig

ya either save and get a real LP or save a get some really good pedals. Other than that, it looks good

I don't like how Les Pauls play. I love there sound but the neck isn't a fit for me. If esp is trying to copy a Les Paul with this guitar I'd say they failed. It plays absolutely nothing like a Les Paul IMO.

Any suggestions for really good pedals? Are the ones I listed bad?

try more Les Pauls. they all have different necks.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Yes. Here is a tip: make some music with that stuff. Until it is used to make some tunes, none of that stuff make a damn bit of difference.

Now, when you post some sounds, then we can more effectively critique.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

EC1000 is the bomb!... especially in the vintage black finish... they re not as fat and heavy as Les Pauls... plus they have 24 frets and good hardware..

I think THE best OD is MXR ZW 44, transparent, gainy and gives you the right amount of compression, hate compressor pedals

Re: Please Critique My Rig

You have a solid gigworthy rig.

Here's my suggestions.

Keep the ltd, its a solid guitar. If you want the tone feel weight of a les paul but want the playability of an ltd, get a ltd ec401 as a backup. I had both 1000 and 400, the 400 is heavier and sounded more like a les paul.

Down the line maybe upgrade ur amp to say a marshall dsl100 which can be had used for around 600.

Def invest in some better pedals. Then again if you get a dsl you won't need any pedals maybe just a boost

here's my soundclick page but some of the equipment i don't have yet. these recording have the blackstar head to a jet city cab. the guitar used is a esp ltd with duncan distortion and a yjm. i used the bad monkey and a zoom multi effects.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

sounds like a great rig, except for the ESP.

get a Jackson... or a Charvel

If you're not a fan of the superstrats, I highly recommend you try out a stop-tail Kelly or King V

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Yep, thin and piercing on some of the high stuff.

What are your amp settings on? Do you have lots of mids in there for girth.

Plus the guy is playing a bright sounding ax with a floyd and duncan distortion... that sounds like Harsh town everywhere, unless you play thru a recto or some other REALLY bassy amp.
