Please Critique My Rig

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Another thought - the Tortuga Yeti Fuzz-distortion has really nice thick tones and lotsa gain. I think that might work well with what you do.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

i agree with everyone the sound of my rig on my soundclick page sucks. i don't understand gear at all and i now realize the 2x12 randall cab i bought is the wrong ohms to work with my blackstar head. this whole tone thing is pretty disheartening especially after seeing what people on this forum have. i really don't like tweeking gear or trying different things out, i just wanna play and stop throwing money at the wind.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Green backs are great, the blackstar you have how many ohms does it take, about the cab it can be re wired... for instance if the speakers are 8ohm, the cab can be set to either 16 or 4 ohms, depending on how you wire them... so i wouldn't be so worried about it. Duncan Distortion is a killer pickup BUT in warm sound guitar... for now, lower the gain, up the volume, the OD with less than half of it's gain in front of the amp, also with half the gain tops, and loose the digital crap.

the blackstar head has 3 inputs (first input says 1x8 ohm) between the first and the second input it says "or" (second input says 2x16 ohm) (third input says 1x16 ohm)

the randall cab has 2 inputs (in mono the first input says 4ohms, in stereo it says 8 ohms) (in mono the second input says 16 ohms, in stereo it says 8 ohms)

i am thinking i need a cab that has 2 16 ohm inputs to run stereo

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Dude!... why do you think you have to play stereo? Most people with big amps play a half stack in mono...

Anyways.... I'm thinking they are 8ohm speakers and wired in series they make 16 ohms... so using that input you're good to go!

don't i have to have both inputs on the cab plugged into something from the amp? right now i only have sound from 1 speaker.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

BTW could you record something with just guitar plugged to the amp with no more than half the gain, and using volume loud enough to play next to a loud drummer, use it in american mode, bass, mids and treble all max.."a la evh".. Not a song just some power chords... then do the same with ONLY the OD in front of the amp set the tone of that thing at 12 o clock and it's gain at nine-ish

I'd like to see the wiring in there BUT, with two 8ohm speakers wired in series at 16 ohm, you get a mono sound, with both speakers on

dude you just made my whole week. i did what you said and have sound out of both speakers. i'm running both speakers in mono and man they sound great.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

the only thing I can critique is the LTD ec1000 (read well, LTD not ESP). You don't call it Gibson when you're refering to an Epi, right?

Why wouldn't they?, green backs are great!

anyways... you should record what i said above... that would be the way to find out exactly what's making that thin tone, it can't be all the guitars fault

Re: Please Critique My Rig

guitar: esp ec1000 with emg's or something similar

head: blackstar ht-20

cab: randall 2x12 with 25 watt greenbacks (i get to return this tomorrow because the ohms don't match my head)

pedals in front, in order: Digitech XMS Compressor, Digitech Bad Monkey Overdrive

pedals in loop, in order: Fish n Chips Eq, MXR M-135 Smart Gate, Deltalab Digital Delay

Any Suggestions or Tips?

Where didyou get your main drive ? Are you using Bad Monkey as a booster ?

Re: Please Critique My Rig

I might upgrade the pedals in the loop, but if it all work for you - rock it hard.

I can definitely hear the lynch/Gilbert in those clips!

Sounds fine to me. Must sound better now.
