Please Critique My Rig

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Other suggestions from someone who's spent way too much money on gear over the years:
  • Don't go fishing for suggestions about how to improve your rig. If you're happy with it, be happy. If you're not, at least understand what it is you don't like so you can focus the conversation. Otherwise people will just recommend more expensive stuff that might not actually suit you any better.
  • Know what it is you're going for when it comes to tone. You can waste a lot of money chasing tone when it's a moving target.
  • Know what it is you really like about your current rig. You definitely don't want to lose that in any "upgrades".
  • Don't underestimate contentment. You've got a solid rig. Sometimes more is just more.
  • Don't obsess over nailing someone else's tone. Kind of related to the contentment thing but even if you love ____'s tone, don't be afraid of sounding like yourself except when playing in a tribute band.
  • Don't worry what people think. It's not a very rock & roll attitude to run with the pack.

Is it possible to sticky a single post?

Re: Please Critique My Rig

Really???... wow, well maybe you used the tone knob al the way up... at twelve o clock is as transparent as they come... AND as pretty much al ODs it is a TS, in this case is a TS808 modded to let the bass pass

Well there are differences between most TS clones, Small but still differences. I still tried them side by side in Daddy's Junky Music and I felt that the TS9 won. Again, it was with my guitar and my amp, so results vary from setup-to-setup. The minor mods i did to the TS9 made it that much better. I don't know anyone who uses a tone knob all the way up on a OD. Gain at 9 oclock, tone around noon, level at 2 oclock. IMO the ZW made pinch harmonics sound hard and grating and too buzzy. If you like it, fine, I still prefer the TS9 after comparing them side by side. just differences in opinion.

Re: Please Critique My Rig

If I had to pick out one thing I think would make a difference for this rig, it would be the speakers. In my humble opinion, you're begging for a Vintage 30 or similar. Personally, I'd go for the Eminence Governor, but to each his own. I don't hear quite enough treble detail, and I think a little bit more upper mids would help the tone a good deal. I'm not an authority on the subject, but you did ask for input.

I just got the cab with the 2 celestion greenbacks and it has made a ton of difference.
