Please educate me on the LP Studio

I've been gassing for a Les Paul and a used LP Studio is in my range. I really want a '58 reissue but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Please educate me on the LP Studio. (Pickup swap is a given)

Re: Please educate me on the LP Studio

all the basics, minus binding and most fancyness. basic rocker neck joint like most(short tenon), can easily sound great.

Re: Please educate me on the LP Studio

I believe there are some with thinner bodies from the late '90? But most are LP Std spec minus binding. I have to say I really like the white studios, simple yet classy IMO. Good luck.

Re: Please educate me on the LP Studio

They're Gibson, so they're sometimes hit & miss as far as workmanship goes, but for the most part, they're the Standard models without the binding. Try them, you'll probably like them.

Thanks, that's the model I'm looking at. I'll stop into GC before I make a decision.

I like 'em, and that is the one LP model (the VM) that i would spend my money on !
I do not care for the other "coloured" ones !

The arly and mid 90's had the Lite model with a bit thinner body and a balsa center blcok. Those things RAWK!!!!!

Re: Please educate me on the LP Studio

I have an early '00 that is getting a makeover right now. It is green/teal flip flop which they don't offer anymore. I actually like the neck on my Agile a bit more than the Studio. The studio has a pretty thick neck on it.

Re: Please educate me on the LP Studio

No fancy top, no binding around top or around fingerboard, two and three-piece bodies, speed knobs instead of bell knobs, likely different pots.

Anyone know if there's a difference in the maple cap dimensions, and neck-set tenon?

Re: Please educate me on the LP Studio

I had a LP Studio Vintage Mahogany as my main player guitar for about a year. It sounded good, and played good, but you really have to try a bunch when you shop around. There are some really bad ones out there.

If you are looking for a gibson les paul, then check them out. If you are open to other brands, then it's a totally different situation, as there are many options out there.

Re: Please educate me on the LP Studio

I wouldn't get a Les PaulS tudio, I prefer the 60's style neck... Aren't they weight relieved too?

I was shopping for LP Studios a few months ago and ended up with a customized mahogany Strat :) Some of the worst fretwork and overall fit and finish I've seen on an American-made guitar in a long time. the Premium Plus Studios were no better. It was also obvious that Gibson is weight-relieving a lot of LPs. Unfortunately they just drill huge holes in the mahogany to accomplish this.

Honestly, unless you stumble on an absolute gem, spend your time looking at Tokai or used Grecos and you'll be happier in the end

the Studios from the early-mid 90s seemed to be a little nicer in general so used is the way to go if you're set on a Gibson

Yeah, 2007 and after studios are weight relieved. (which I hate!!) I bought a new leftover 2006.

Time Stood Still, Nothing more to add really.. Studios can be fine. Just no binding and no frills. I wanted the LP tone but having binding wasnt worth $700 more to me. I got a studio and its great.. Stock pickups were ok. Some pros use them. But I changed them.
