Please help me find a head!

My price range is $850 and under.
Should I get the Carvin V3 or a slightly used EVH 5150 III 50w?
I am looking for:
Smooth distortion
Lots of gain
AC/DC type growl
Hard rock tones
Respectable cleans
Compatibility with pedals
Good tones at low volumes

Get on Musicians Friend IMMEDIATELY, and buy the Bad Cat Cougar 50H. They're almost gone, and they blow away the amps you mentioned plus most others under $2000. The good part is they're on clearance for dead cost at $429.

Thank me later. And don't worry about great distortion and great cleans. The Cougar 50 does it all.....even spring reverb and FX loop.

Buy two. After they're sold out, sell one for double the money.

The gain channel is like a Bogner or Friedman, and the clean channel is similar to a Shiva's clean channel. It's a $1200 amp.

Dang man... I'm waffling between doing this, or using my Sweetwater 36 months 0% interest card to order a BE100 today. I'd talked myself out of the Friedman... but I stupidly keep reading reviews and most people gush over them. If the Sweetwater deal would last until after next week (when my buddy's BE half-stack shows up)... then I could hold-off on that until I know for sure how orgazzzmic the Friedman is.

What is wrong with you, man???? Now I went ahead and bought one of the heads, and I'm gonna be driving over an hour this weekend to pick up a combo. I intend to use the combo, and keep the head brand new in the box. You're like a pusher, lol.

Jeebus, now I'm thinking of what I could sell to get one of those Bad Cats. MSRP of 1400, going for less than a third of that. Wow.

The real no brainer is their open box for $378 in a state with no tax. I walked through it the other day, got to $30 CA tax and talked myself out of it by then (I really don't need another stand alone head). The open box option was gone yesterday and came back again today. Not sure why there'd be reoccurring open boxes - returns? And why are people returning them if so? Either way, if your state doesn't have tax go for the mint open box option!

Looks like mine is going back to MF. It was red plating, and I think I'm just going to return it and put my money elsewhere.
