If all that inspires you is blink 182 style stuff, guitar is most likely not what you want. I'd suggest bass, I just figured you wanted to aspire to someone like steve vai or something, aspiring to tom delonge isn't alot to aspire to, within a year you will be blowing him out of the water and completely bored.

I'm inspiered by someone who can write a song that makes me feel something, not by notes-per-second.

Different people like different music, i've seen both blink 182 and Vai and Satch in concert, and for me the blink gig was about a trillion times more fun, it isnt all about technical ability.

When you are sitting at home and just playing around, eventually if you have not opened up to anything but punk, you will end up just playing the same stuff over and over unless you explore a little more techinical'ness.

And over time thats going to get boring, so Im trying to make sure he dont just blow $700 on a guitar when hes most likely going to get bored very quick, hes better off buying a cheapey for now and modding it, then waiting till he sees if its right for him, before be blows that much money.

You can buy a lowerend gibson lespaul for that! Seriously. Just get a squier for now, play guitar for a few months, see where it takes you. Then you will be ready to take the next step.

Re: Please help me.....

Mephis, you're talking about opening up to different styles of music while bashing the guy for what he listens to. A bit hypocritical dont you think? Even though the TD model looks like a one trick pony, with a few tweaks on some knobs, and a change of playing style, you can easily adapt it to any style of music. Same for the Esquire, one pickup. Sure it had 3 positions for switching, but you see the very very broad styles of music that the guitar has participated it. He asked for our advice, not our criticisms. Now, you've already expressed your points on pop-punk, Blink-182, Satch, Vai, technical ability, and the TD sig model; so wouldnt it now be time to embrace differences and accept the fact that the style of music he wants to play isnt a style that you particularly care for?

Now, I will express my opinion again. If you have the budget, I suggest buying a MIM Standard Strat/Tele (whichever feels best to you), and perhaps a MIM P-bass, have them retrofitted with pickups of your choice, and have them both professionally set up. Learn to play each in a wide varity of music, even if pop-punk is your style, you can incorporate other styles into it, and make it interesting, while still staying true to the style you prefer. Not to mention that because you now play bass and guitar, you will be a much more rounded musician and perhaps have a better ability to write songs to what you want. I hope the search goes well, and dont be afraid to ask any more questions. That's what this forums here for, to help.

Be original, do techinical punk. Create your own genre.
Music is ment to be original, not a group of copy cats.

Grow up.....

You can save the guy some money without the childish lecture.....

Re: Please help me.....

Ok I have a Squier bullet special with an Invader in it and only a volume knob. Thats all i need. I never use a tone knob anyway. As for bassed I have a Hoppus P-Bass, a Fender American P-bass(Got it at a steal to, $300 brand new, no scratches or and damage at all.) and a squier P-bass. I would say Im better at bass, but sometimes guitar is just more appealing to me.

Re: Please help me.....

Looks like gear wise you have all you need, if i were in your position i'd make sure my bass amp is up to gigging standard and join a band as a bassist, as there are so many more oppertunities for them, but keep the guitar playing going too so if you ever need the change you can do so easily.

Good luck and have fun.
