Ok guys, although we all gotta find our own tone, Im really digging SRV's tone on little wing, all Im looking for is that real bright, edge of break up, clean tone, and pushed into od singy lead tone he's using in this tune.

here's my gear, could somebody give me some tips as to what to use out of what i have, and how to set it up,

GandL strat
Jap Strat
Compressor
TS9DX
DS1
Crate VFX tube amp, with clean and od channels,

Anybody?

Re: Please Help!

I think SRV used strat > wah > TS9 > Fender twin reverb. Try that and you should be close.

Others experts will correct me if I'm wrong...

The difficulty here comes into the variety of gear that SRV owned to get the distinct tones he got. Any old Fender will give you that clean tone and tube screamers will give you that "on the edge of breakup" tone you are looking for.

His singing leads (I feel anyways) are from the Dumble ODS he owned. I know he also used a Marshall live as well.

The compressor should help add sustain to the rig. I don't know the quality of the Crate you're using, but it's tube and you should be able to get the clean channel to break up with your tube screamer. I'd look into getting that tube screamer or DS-1 modded by John here on the forums. It seems that he can really transform those things without a big cost. If what others are saying, you should be able to get a little bit of a Marshall flavor with a modded DS-1 and some great light overdrive, light clipping with the Tube screamer.
