Please recommend a 12 string acoustic

Hey guys,

I'm looking to add a good 12 string acoustic/electric to my collection. Can you please recommend something under $1,000?

So far the only one that has caught my eye is this Takamine. If you have any experience with this guitar, please share.

Otherwise, I'm open to all other suggestions.

Thanks!

EG523SC12 Takamine. If you have any experience with this guitar, please share.

Thanks!
Owned one for about 6 months. Loved it.
I have smallish hands tho and what I discovered is that you have to spend $1200-$1300+ to get a 12 string with a thin neck.
That said, I bought a Carvin 98012T(made by Cort in Korea for Carvin) and haven't looked back.
It's not as thin as I'd like, but I found it more comfortable to play than the Tak.
I've played around with most of the sub-$1k 12 strings and the only one who's neck I liked was an Ovation... just can't handle the bowl back.
Breedlove makes some awesome sub-$1K 12 strings and I'd look at the Alvarez AJ60S12, as well.
I'd keep an eye out for used Talyors, too.

For me... Guild 12 strings are the only way to go. This is a Chinese made Guild with Mahogany back & sides. Its a way cool guitar and it is one of the few that can play to pitch. Most do not have enough strength in the neck to tune them to pitch. I like this a lot and it is under your budget. It has a great neck & plays like a dream.

I have a Takamine EG series 12 string. It's not the same wood combination as what you are showing in your link, but I can't say enough good about it. I love it, and it's probably one of the nicest acoustics I have had over the years.

I picked mine up used for around 450, with hard shell case, and it was mint. worth every penny. They have a really nice feel that just is so comfortable to play, and they will survive stage use like a champ. I can attest to that.

Here's a beauty that I'd part with. Great tone and plays like a dream. Cedar top, lacewood body and sides. Gorgeous guitar and nice hardshell case. PM me if you're interested. Thanks! Lew

Depends on what you want to do with it, but I like Ovation. I've got 3 twelve strings of theirs.

Don't forget Alvarez. You get a lot of bang for the buck with one of those.

I used to own one of there low end 12 strings. Solid top, laminate back and sides. The thing sounded great and played well. I think it cost me all of $300. With $1000 price limit you should be able to buy a lot of guitar if you go the Alvarez route.

You might want to check out acousticguitarforum.com. That place has a lot of good acoustic information and what seems like a pretty active selling forum.

dont discount Ibanez. id ont even know if they make 12 string acoustics...but some of their 6 strings are VERY impressive.

ive played the 6 string versions of those EG series guitars, they were pretty cool

Re: Please recommend a 12 string acoustic

Cheapest Yamaha 12 string made (whatever it is today) and an SD Woody.

Re: Please recommend a 12 string acoustic

I also like the Guild. The Alvarez sounds pretty good. also. For a warmer sound, Seagull makes an S12 for not much money. I wasn't too impressed with the Martin and Gibson twelve strings and they have a history of bridges breaking on some of their models. Old Stellas literally rip apart. In general, you may have to repair a bridge on a twelve string acoustic due to all that string tension in the future. So don't spend too much money.
