Please Stop the Clicking! (Shielding Issue)

OK. I have a '95 Gibson Les Paul Standard. I've had this guitar for almost 10 years. I put SDs in it about 2 years ago (Screamin Demon/PG). Lately, I have been getting some nasty 'clicking' through the amp. It seems that the noise is generated when the back control plate rubs on my pants. I usually have leather pants on, if that makes any difference. My uneducated mind would say that there is some static electric charge building up inside the control space and I need to do some shielding. I know nothing about shielding.

If this is a shielding issue, how extensive a project would this be? What supplies would I need? I think that there's shielding spray and shielding sheets. Let me know.

Rock on.

I have this same problem on my Peavey from time to time. Just touching the pickgaurd will generate a loud "snap". The problem is, I don't think you can shield against this, because the spark is probably jumping from the pickgaurd to the coil. There's nothing to "shield", per se.

Unfortunately, I can't help much beyond that - I still haven't solved the problem myself. :(

I will be paying my guitar tech a visit in the next few days, I'll let you know if I learn anything.

Rock on.

I know this may sound strange, but if your problem is static build up try spraying a small amount of "static guard" on a cloth and wipe down all the componants, like guard, back plate etc.. I have done this and it has solved the problem temporarily. On one of my guitars I do this about once a month. IMO not a big deal!
