Please go to our myspace page and take a listen to the remix of our song "The Gates".
And let us know what you think.
We're hoping to submit it for the Prog Power compilation cd.

Basically the reviews of the EP were that the songs were good but production sounded flat or too old school.
With the Gates remix are we moving in the right direction production wise?
We want to make sure we're getting it right before we release the full length CD.

Also, I marked it as downloadable. So if you like it, let me know if you were able to download it.

Again, please let me know.

Thanks,
Kent

I'll listen to yours if you listen to mine! (it's in my sig) :beerchug:

No seriously, I'm listening. Sounds pretty awesome to me. I don't see any button to download it though.

Anyway, to the song. I don't hear this being flat or old school. It's maybe a bit busy for me with the keyboards, but that's just my personal preference, I'm not into keyboards in metal. Production wise, I think it's spot on. The wee guitar solo didn't quite fit - I'm not sure what's wrong with it, it seems kinda stunted. The notes don't sustain and it doesn't fit the rest of the song which is pretty high gain. It's like you took Jimmy Page's live tone and put it into a modern heavy metal song. Not bad by any means, just doesn't quite fit.

The actual song I think is a bit stop start, it could do with a hook or two to go with the juddering riff. But this IS my first listen so it will grow on people - I mean I'm really enjoying it on one listen, who knows how I'd feel after a few?!

Awesome work! Just make that guitar solo scream rather than whimper.

Re: PLEASE, take a listen!!!

The production is a bit dry. I think the drums and keys could use more reverb. Also, the guitars drown out the keys and drums a bit, and the vocals could stand to come down a tad.

Contrary to Diocletian, I think the solo was spot-on for the tune. (That bent note could linger a little longer, but that's a personal gripe.)

Overall, the production is very solid, and I like the composition. I wish you the best of luck with the submission, Kent!

I'm no engineer, but I think it sounds good. Like Keith said, maybe the vocals are a bit too up front.
