Please tell me how can I make my current Humbuckers scream

Re: Please tell me how can I make my current Humbuckers scream

Orange Micro Dark with the shape knob on the scooped side of things. Gain knob maxed. SD-1: volume maxed, gain at 8:00, tone at noon. It helps to tighten things up, but I’ve tried the amp with an EMG bridge pup and it’s so much easier to get chugs with it. Maybe the guitar’s wiring components are not the very best.

There's you're problem. Cutting the mids is likely choking a good bit of scream and all that gain is turning things to mush. Try turning up the mids a bit, lowering the gain on your amp and raising the gain on your SD-1. Cascading your gain is probably what separates a good eq from a decent one. Turning the tone up a bit on the SD-1 might also help depending on your preferences.

I will try that. And I also might use an eq pedal in the effects loop.

^^Can that replace a volume pot or is it just a boost?

like a volume pot on steroids...I use mine with a concentric push pull pot so I have separate volume and boost control.

Also, experiment with some preamp tubes if you have any.

It currently has a JJ 12AX7, and I’ve read good things about Tung Sol RI, Shuguang R9, Sovtek LPS, EHX and Mullard RI for high gain applications. Also NOS Tungsram.

Funny enough, this old vid from the early days of That Pedal Show turned up on YouTube t’other day. Worth watching for what the EQ does both pre- and post- drive, particularly when you goose the mids.

Following the thread, I agree with others that the issue is likely your rig, not the pickups - and scooping the amp is already putting you further from the tone you’re seeking.

They all will have their own character. I find the EHX and Tung Sol to be bright, JJ dark, I love the RI Mullard in my clean channel.
I’d encourage you to swap a few in and see what you like.
The same tubes can and often do sound different in different amps too.

And just to add, focus on the tube in V1 of the amp first, it’ll have the most affect on overall tone.

I think the original poster has a Micro Dark? So only one tube.
