Plexi + Duncans rocking

Re: Plexi + Duncans rocking

That sound is great, but perhaps a tad too gainy.

You're right...I went OTT.:omg:

BY THE WAY...I did some experimenting and I can confirm that the "muddyness" factor is increased with the post phase inverter master volume...the more you attenuate, the more you loose definition in the low end.

So I guess that's the culprit.

I learned something new today. :-)

I disagree. It sounded just right to me. I think too many people are afraid of using some gain these days. Maybe it's because they want to set themselves far apart from those pesky kids and their Metal Zones. If it's not one extreme, it's another. If the gain is good, use it. Listen to EVH, he wasn't afraid of gain and you don't hear too many people knocking the "Brown Sound."

Re: Plexi + Duncans rocking

I think it sounds great..Not like an airbrushed hi-fi $tudio recording, just genuinely good sound/playing

Re: Plexi + Duncans rocking

Thanks guys...I guess a lot of different ears hear a lot of different things. :nervous:

Re: Plexi + Duncans rocking

They are not....just the opposite!
Sustaining yes...but not alot of distortion....you can hear clear chords with no annoying mud!
That is not very likely with alot of gain!

You're right. I'm an idiot. I don't even know what my ears hear! From now on, I will consult you in order to get an authorative opinion on the sounds of any band. Thanks.

Re: Plexi + Duncans rocking

Glad to hear it...but no need to get pissy about it...but what ever floats your boat man!
Sound is just my humble trade here in life...

I'm not pissy. I don't care because what really matters is what comes out of your fingers through your amp. The rest I'll leave up to the sound technicians.

Re: Plexi + Duncans rocking

Consider the fact that I bought this head to play stuff that sounds like Hendrix and AC/DC mixed together! :jester:

So I guess I'm there.

For the modern high gain stuff, I'd use another guitar and a distortion pedal like this:

http://www.ddguitar.net/brutal.mp3

I was just inventing things on the spot...I don't usually play this style.

Also the volume was really low...virtually no power tube and speaker influence on the distortion here.

Hahah. So you hit the spot!Great thing!
your Hi-Gain sound is too rough ,or too boomy ,but the carachter (aka the voicing) is really delicious...It has the 80's flavour with some modern grid...
Great thing! (Reminds me of Dr.Feelgood somehow)

well I guess if you want to play with stadium rock gain in your bedroom and still have the response of a tube amp...you gotta settle for some trade off at least.

not bad though...even if I say so myself. :-))
