Hi!

New member here, and I'm sorry if the answer is here and I wasn't able to find.https://forum.seymourduncan.com/asset.php?fid=73410&uid=54829&d=1491138254

Please see attached pics.

I lost the sound of the bridge pickup one day, the wires came off the pots. Now, I need to reattach the wires from the neck as well as the the bridge. The neck may not be a Duncan, but the bridge is a Dimebucker.

I bought a soldering iron, and have looked up the diagram, but something doesnt look right.

Can someone pls advise as to what goes where?

The guitar has two HB's, 2vol, 1 tone, and 3 position toggle switch.

I'm lost, and I am so greatful to any/all who can guide me through what is probably not as complicated as I've made it-

Thank you so much!

Re: Pls Help! Dime Wiring Issue

Welcome to the forum

I don't know how wires can just "come off" the pots without some kind of human intervention; that might be a first IME.

Normally I'd point you to this diagram: https://docs.google.com/gview?embed...om/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/2H_3G_2V_1T.pdf

...but the colors in your switch wiring and the neck pickup are different from the drawing. Which pot was the bridge and which was the neck? It looks like the pot nearest the pickups is reverse wired, so green is positive and black is ground. Also looks like there's a loose thin white wire that would be that volume's output to the switch. That would need to be put back on the middle lug of the middle pot. I see a stray bare wire hanging out in the vicinity of the switch wires, but can't tell where it's from (pickup or switch) so I can't say where it should go.

Re: Pls Help! Dime Wiring Issue

Hi!!

Thank you so much for response! You have no idea how much I appreciate your help!

Maybe this will give you a better idea of the catastrophe I have here.

The switch: Has two wires- one grey wire that is connected to the tone pot, and has one white that hasthree wires, bare, white, and red.

The first pot, closest to the pickups is to the neck pickup. Its grey and has five wires. Red, white(these two are supposed to be put together and taped?), green, black, and bare.

The middle pot is to the bridge (Dimebucker) pickup. It is black, and contains five wires, Black, white, green, bare, and red. There is also a black wire that is soldered to the tremolo on one end, and to one of the pots.

I hope this may help and may be able to get in the right direction.

Thank you so much for your help!!

JJ

Re: Pls Help! Dime Wiring Issue

a couple directions for clean soldering, leave the switch attached, pull the pots completely out of the cavity and insert them in a piece of cardboard, aling them and hook them up like on the diagram, i bet your neck pickup is a dean humbucker, dean uses the same color code as duncan, so this makes things easier

well, first off, get the wires from the dimebucker, take the white and red, twist the conductors and then tape them, you don't need to solder them, this is a seymour duncan, so the black wire is the hot and the green wire goes twisted with the bare braid and soldered to any ground (back of a pot)

you prepare your neck pickup the same as the dimebucker and then you can take your pots assembly from the cardboard to your guitar cavity and solder the pickups and swich

this way you work on a modular way and totally avoid doing pot wiring on a tight cavity :)

Re: Pls Help! Dime Wiring Issue

Hi!

Thank you for the response, I certainly appreciate the help. I had to put this project off for a few weeks. I just wanted to make sure I know exactly what I'm doing, sorry for all the questions. :) The switch wiring once I sort the pot wiring, and I know this is a dumb question, but which wires from the switch go where? There are 3 as I said, and just want to ensure I connect them correctly. The switch has two wires- one grey wire that is connected to the tone pot(no problems there) and has one white wire that has three wires, bare, white, and red inside. Where do these go?

Again, sorry for the dumb questions, I just want to make sure that what I am doing is correct without asking someone to walk me through this procedure. I have a feeling I might be making this more complicated than it has to be.

Thank you again,I really appreciate your help (and patience)

Jay
