PNGD

Re: PNGD

Fretwork on mine is definitely top notch. Total opposite of the horrible fret tops, shape, and fret ends of Gibson production guitars from just a few years ago.

Re: PNGD

Now you're talking...I think Dean guitars are exceptional pieces of fine craftsmanship!:bigok: Have you ever checked out DBZ guitars?

I had a Time Capsule USA Custom ML when they were being made by US Masters. It was a well crafted guitar but ridiculously overpriced, even after I got $600 knocked off the normal selling price. It still cost me 3 grand, and I did not feel it was built as well as my R8 Hamer Standard, or McCarty, and the Dean was still several hundred more expensive than those were. Great guitar, and I played the beejesus out of it, but overpriced.

And I thought a Gibson Les Paul was expensive.;) They were probably more affordable when they first came out, but of course your paying for the name after Dean git established. Dean Zelinsky I think sold Dean guitars and went on a new venture with DBZ guitars. I think he sold that too and went on to a private stock series.:scratchch This is a pretty amazing and very light guitar...it sounds fantastic!

Re: PNGD

Dean Z sold his interests in Dean guitars in the 80s. He was with the company that owns the name since 1997 Armadillo Music based here in Tampa Bay from 2000ish and departed the company in mid 2008 IIRC.

Re: PNGD

I bought my TCML around Xmas 2006 IIRC. Dean was still with them at the time, I am pretty sure. I really liked the guitars and still do, but at the prices they are/were charging for USA stuff, no way could I ever keep trying/buying one. Bad re-sale. I felt like I gave that guitar away considering the price I originally paid, but in realistic terms based on the quality of the instrument, it was a fair price.

I would love to have another ML (minus the V neck) in the same color as this Les Paul Classic , or a Soltero. the DBZ designs aesthetically do not do much for me.

Re: PNGD

Dean Z is no longer with DBZ either. AFAIK that is. The 35th Anniversary MLs from last year pretty much a match to that LP. The Soltero is a Custom order only at the moment.

I'm very picky myself when it comes to paying high prices. They are still good guitars but lower the prices I say.;) I know a member from the SG forum who bought a Soltero a few months back...he loves it! It's a black one and even though I'm more into the more traditional shape of a Les Paul, I thought the Soltero had that extra edge in the shape and styling. And you say the DBZ designs aesthetically do not do much for you...how about a DBZ Cavallo...I just love the shape and aesthetics on this beauty of a guitar.:)
