POD amp equivalent question

okay you line 6 junkies - don't be shy around these tube owners

I was laying down some tracks with m y old pod 2.0 - can't exactly crank the tubes when the inspiration strikes at 2am
anyway - not the point

I've found that I'm kinda in love with the pod 2.0 amp known as "LINE 6 CRUNCH"

Does anyone have any idea what this is supposed to be emulating

because i htink i'd have to buy the original source
i know the manual says something about a dumble, etc - but does anyone with better ears than mine know what this amp is

its a very bright and thick crunch
that's all i know

maybe it's a Dumble Overdrive 112 Combo emulated ?

any idea what amp - available to those not willing to mortgage a kidney in the sake of tone - is closest to this tone

(do not consider me weak for my attachment to my kidneys - you never know when you might need two)

Actually the Line 6 Crunch on those older models were based on a one of a kind Bogner Caveman. My buddy is the owner of that amp, who was at one time an employee of Line 6. If I remember the amp, I believe that the volume on his amp starts at 4. (He likes to play loud!). If you like the Silvertone Twin Twleve in the new PODxt Model packs, that his amp too. He's owned that since he was a teenager.

I've never even heard of one of those
having heard the amp first hand - as it appears you might have
anything close that is still being made, or was made and is available used

as for the Silvertone - i wish i could comment but i only have the pod 2.0

Are you trying to use the POD 2.0 still or something else? I guess I'm not 100% clear. I'm assuming your looking for the deal replacement. I think a Matchless would get you close or any boutique amp in that style.

I have the pod 2.0 - only (no other line6 stuff)
I was really diggin the tone of that one amp model (line6 crunch) and, as i may be in the market for a new tube amp in the not so distant future, I was interested in where a tone like that might be found

I think you might get close with a Matchless, but they aren't cheap. Hard call here.

If thats true...why does the book that comes with the POD say that it is based on a rare Dumble amp that they spent some time with???

Ya know it may be my fault. It's been so long since I used the 1.4/2.0. I think that there was another model with a bit more gain called the POD/Flextone Drive. That was the Bogner now that I seem to recall. As far as which Dumble for the crunch, I don't remember at the moment. I could find out once guys come back from the holidays. Also, those Line 6 models did use a few different amps to create a hybrid type of tone in some cases. Sorry for the earlier confusion.

Still the Crunch is one of the best tones on the 2.0 Line 6 ... which should be the same as my Flextone


Another secret sweet one is the Small Tweed ... crank the gain on that sucker and I'm Heavy Metal heaven ... kind of ironic actually, most of the amp models I use on the Line 6 for metal are more of the Vintage and Boutique Fender copies
