POD Farm/Reaper Driving Me Insane

My old computer had a version of Pod Farm that could be downloaded as a VST and it required purchase of an iLock and license and who knows what.

In any case, that computer crashed and burned a year or two ago.

So I bought a new computer and I'm trying to download from the DVD that came with Pod Farm and I can't get it to work. When I plug the iLock into a USB port my computer freezes up. The heart of the matter is probably that I don't have a clue about this crap ...

log into this
download that
insert the dll files up your you know what
Convert the batwing license to the crappola code
Then go over here and do that
When prompted press this
A little lower please

Son of a buck. I am trying to record two songs for a contest and the entries must be postmarked by this Saturday.

I also purchased a new Reaper license. Those instructions are somewhere between six hundred and a million pages (I haven't actually looked) ... so between the changes to Reaper and my loss of familiarity with the Focusrite Scarlet I can't figure out how to set up monitoring so I can hear previously recorded tracks while I am recording additional tracks.

Also, my timing on rhythm guitar is off. Which tab do you push for that?

******.

Reaper comes with plenty of effects etc, but the Pod Farm effects are more intuitive. The user interface is similar to having analog devices with knobs etc.

I can record the guitar track OK with room mics. It is the vocals that suck. I need EQ and reverb and delay and compression and a different singer and/or pitch correction.

I just wanted (needed) to complain and feel much better now that I have. Thanks for reading. I really appreciate both of you very much.

Er, which version of Microsoft Windows are you running?

The original POD Farm may have been tailored for XP which is what I had before. Maybe the same disc won't work.

Second the suggestion that it has old drivers not compatible with new OS. Make sure it has ASIO drivers for lowest latency when playing. have to adjust sample size down in buffer to get low latency. ASIO drivers allow for lower latency before it becomes too much for CPU and crackling sounds or cutout emerge from your speakers.

Re: POD Farm/Reaper Driving Me Insane

I wish I was to the point of being concerned with latency.

The ole version of POD Farm I had purchased was 1.10 or something, so tonight after posting my frustration rant I decided to purchase a newer version. So I paid for version 2.5 for ilok. The back and forth process to deposit and activate a license is insane, and while I admit to being anything but savvy when it comes to computer stuff, I can say for certain the instructions are severely lacking in clarity. I have followed all the instructions and the final step is to go back to Line 6's website and downlaod POD Farm 2.5 for ilok.

I can't find that download anywhere on their website. It appears that the license for the program has been deposited into my ilok account, but the indications there are that it is not in a location. It sounds like Line 6 should have provided an activation code.

It is very confusing and now $99 and three hours later I haven't accomplished anything, and Line 6 customer service hours start and end while I'm at work. I have sent an email inquiry so I'll see where this gets me.

It was difficult last time, but at least then I had a DVD and an activation code.

I believe that if a manufacturer sells a product that requires a download that download should be readily available to the paid customer.

Update:

I figured out how to get the license into the correct slot in ilok, Now all I have to do is download the software from Line 6. It's too late to record. I don't like making the dogs bark. Once the dogs start the humans won't be far behind.

Re: POD Farm/Reaper Driving Me Insane

Are you using an iLok, iLok2, or the iLok software (iLok Manager) ... they are all very different and different manufacturers support different formats. EastWest supports the iLok Manager, for example, but for Steve Slate plugins, you must have the physical iLok dongle. Generally speaking, newer software will not work with an original iLok.

Re: POD Farm/Reaper Driving Me Insane

Well I already had the ilok key and dongle, and evel though there's a version 2 the one I have will still support Line 6. I found some instructions for the ilok device manager to get past one step. Now (I think) I just need to download the software. My previous experience with the simple POD Farm stuff was very satisfactory ... especially for vocals.

Thanks for the input.

Re: POD Farm/Reaper Driving Me Insane

Here was the final "hurdle". The Line 6 instructions directed me to their software page, and under "All Software" I selected POD Farm 2 anticipating that doing so would start the download. I was mistaken. I suppose I should have noticed there is a "Go" tab. I will try it tonight at home and expect to be successful.

Re: POD Farm/Reaper Driving Me Insane

Had the same back and forth with Line 6 a few years ago when I bought 1.0 on clearance and qualified for the free upgrade to 2.5. I think they ended up sending me two licenses by the end. iLok sucks, and their update debacle two years ago swore me off them forever. I'll use the iLok'd plugins I own now until they stop working, but I'll never update them.

As for Reaper... you need to tick the track options for record monitoring and record armed.
