Pod or Sansamp?

Debating getting either a Line 6 Pod or a SansAmp to complement my amp recordings. Which is the most real sounding? I previousely had the Sansamp GT2 and it was ok but I've heard the Classic is better.... never had a Pod.

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

2 very different tools that sound..um, very different. buy both, then return the one you don't like.

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

if you are more concerned with effects go with the pod. if you just want a good amp simulation go for sansamp. and do what mincer says. buy on musiciansfriend and return the one you don't like.

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

The Sansamp sounds more in your face. The Line 6 stuff all sounds thinner, though there was a guy in a local band who got amazing tones through a Line 6 head and 4-12 cab.

I guess it's becasue with the modeling technology, you're sorta getting a recording of an amp, while the Sansamp is an amp.

You might end up wanting to keep both. In any good recording, some instruments have to sound more up front. That's where the Sansamp might be handy. And others need to sound further back. That's where you use the POD.

I'm finding the same is true of my tube amps or my tube preamps going into my Marshall power amp, vs my Yamaha DG1000 modeling preamp going into the Marshall power amp. The Yamaha has a lot of amazing tones, but the tube amps sound more in your face. A skilled recording musician can learn how to use both to compliment each other in a song.

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

ive got a POD 2.0 that ive been trying to get rid of for years, and there's no market out there for them. so if you get a POD plan on keeping it or loosing money cuz resale is low too. (want mine?)

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

I would be using it for some direct to disk tracks to compliment my miked Marshall. I just find direct gives a modern punch you can't get from miking. But i do have to do a track of each.
As i said, i had the Sansamp GT2 and while i liked it, i found it wasnt complex enough in the very high end. Dead sort-of. Is the classic better in this regard?

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

to further complicate the issue i suggest trying the v-stack pedal. it's a preamp and/or overdrive pedal.

i've bought and sold 2 guitar pods and 1 bass pod over the last few years but i've kept this. very good piece of gear and great customer service. $199.

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

To compliment your amp?

Whoa... The SansAmp Classic all the way. I've had one since the beginning and it is incredible!!! Very complimentary in front of a tube driven amp. You'll have a multitude of endless sound options that are pretty dam rewarding to dial in and use.

*Now if anybody could help me, I mucked mine up. Attempting to wire a Fulltone 3PDT switch in it as opposed to it's original wiring, I didn't get it right the first go round. :boggled::thumbsdow Finding a picture, diagram, or schematic on the web is 98% impossible. I know Tech 21 has an article discussing the merits of NOT bypassing pedals. It's not under warranty any longer obv., and I'm the sort of person that 'if I messed it up, I've got to fix it' but have put it on the shelf for now as it's frustrating and not a priority. But getting it back to health would be great to put behind it. Help is needed, and I'd rather fix this puzzle than send it in to any Pedal Doctor.

Rid, with your knowledge and background, have a clue? Any help is appreciated by anyone just PM me instead of diverting this thread.

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

You tried to destroy it with a voodoo mojo hulabula troo nopass...that serves you well;)(bummer man....that sucks) :(
They are not meant to be bypassed that easily...
It would have been cheaper to buy a single loop pedal instead;)
Dunno how that have wired that one up.....but it is not your average pedal for sure.

Thanks a lot "Dirk the Daring." I'll definitely look into that and check it out with my fingers crossed.

I know, I know, I know. But I got the bug. Actually it had a very cheap DPDT X-Wing Switch that left alot to be desired. I had a few FT bakelite, brass pin switches on hand (really sturdy, nice construction) and thought what a way to really top this sweet mofo Classic off...

Well, you know, as they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I got a deal on this when it was basically new, but used, back in ~ '91 or er '92? Great local store, that has always known their stuff had it in the display cabinet for $50. (Guess they didn't have much put into it, big trade in??, and just wanted to clear their stock some.) One of those things where I knew enough about it to be really interested and fairly chuffed about checking it out. Not much lost if I didn't like it and I knew it would go for a bit more too. Turned out to be a keeper. I actually enjoy the dip switches (just keep all my settings logged down, ez). One of the orignal classic's w/out a serial #, Tech 21 has been helpful in the past regarding it.

Anywho, I took pix of it's original wiring and how it's mapped out, if it can't be done, I'll attempt to find a better switch still and set it up like it was. Miss using it.

Thanks for the efforts. T'was a trial and error that is luckily remedied. :grumble: Just hope I don't get it back to spec and have something be off on it. :gurmpy:

Re: Pod or Sansamp?

Hmm ok...then it sounds like something that is not so horrible....
Hope that you make it work somehow!
Do some backtracking debugging...maybe it is just something silly??
