POD owners, different versions?

hey guys, just got the T+C's for the university im going to, turns out im not allowed a proper amp in my room, it has to be headphones :evil:

i wanna keep recording though.. im looking for a POD on ebay. what im wondering is, how different are the POD, POD 2 and POD XT? which one is the most worth saving for?

and if any of you guys are looking to shift one, PM me hehe - i got pedals, pickups or cash a-waitin' :13:

i love my XT and i have it hooked into an atomic 1x12 amp and it just comes alive in this amp! so after you get the XT you can save for an atomic amp for when your home from school hehehe. oh and if your into high gain stuff spend the extra $50 when you can and download the metal model pack for it, it gives you tons of great amps and cabs to use...diezel, engl, bogner, triple recto., 5150, JCM 900, JCM 2000, Corford etc etc check the line 6 site for more info on that.

oo, score! the idea of being able to update it so easily is a pretty neat trick.. i've read about a pre-amp only mode, i can imagine sticking with this and using it in front of my DSL :burnout:

A few years ago i bought a used POD2.2 with the longboard pedalboard. At the time the XT was new so everyone that liked PODS were dumping their 2.2's... I do not use multiFX's very often but the POD2.2 has proven to come in handy! I used it on a few Demos in my last band, i have used it for headphone practice and i have carried as a back up to gigs incase my real amp dies..... At least the pod fits in a gig bag and i could still play guitar at a gig if my amp died....

I have been very interested in the newer XT as it has a million more effects and amps over the 2.2 . I find with the 2.2 there is only a few amp model patchs i really love.

Guys...maybe I'm just crazy, but I really dislike the Pod 2.2 in front of any of my amps. It just sounds...wrong. Have you guys tried it? Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

The main trouble there is the Pod is meant to replace an amp.... So if you are pluging in the pod to guitar amp and speaker set up you are not going to get a great sound out of it..... The POD is a direct box really and is meant to go straight to the board or try it thru a Keyboard amp!!!! Or even a powered monitor. Anything that has a full range amp and speaker set up..... The keyboard player in my last band switched to guitar for some songs and he used a POD2.2 into his keyboard amp. It sounded better then when he brought his real Fender tube amp!

Oneday i'd like to try one of those Atomic amps for PODS like XSSIVE says he uses.... Those things sound like the right tool for the best tone out of a pod.... But a keyboard amp is cool as well. Try it at a locel store and you will see what a difference it makes!

It's basically a PodXT with the shortboard built in and the FX model pack already loaded, IIRC.

Imp, the 2.0 is serving me well currently, you can get nice 2nd hand deals on eBay these days since the XT and the XTLive are around. If you don't mind throwing more cash down, you will get more for your money with an XT.

The POD 2.2 is the same as a POD 2.0, just with a few adjustments. They actually have upgrades for 2.3, but they barely do anything. i think they change the tone on a couple cab models and whatnot. if you dont have the 2.3 upgrade in your POD 2.0 already, im pretty sure you can get them for free.

Ok I've found the download area in the Line6 site but i need midi cables i think. Just one thing im wondering, the upgrade modifies the settings on my POD, as opposed to adding anything new?

The POD can certainly be played in front of an amp...you just need to turn off the cabinet modeling.

I LOVE my xt Live. Not that I had anything against the 2.0, but now I have the whole set-up in one unit, and the models really are better. The POD is like most multieffects units, though...the presets are not stellar by any means, and there are too many settings with buzzsaw, buzzing insect type distortion. However, this thing is SOOO easy to save settings in.

Oh, yes, I forgot...the xt Live has amp knobs that mimic the real deal fairly well. If you want to adjust your amp, you just do so as you would any other amp.

Forgot something else.

My only complaint is that the compressor and distortion pedals are in the same footswitch, so if I want the Dynacomp and the Tube Screamer at the same time, the Dynacomp has to stay on. Then again, I can always plug in a real Dynacomp before the xt Live.

One more (then I'll stop and let someone else post):

With the POD 2.0, I had trouble playing LesStrat (HR/CR/HR)...the pups overdrove the unit, so I couldn't get a clean sound.

With the xt Live, there is a 'pad' switch (kind of an attenuator). Problem solved!

The POD XT sounds pretty good to me. I would not gig with it but for practice and maybe some recording sessions it was useful. Sold it a couple of months ago though.

The other guitarist in the band has a POD version 2, and thinks that one is better.

Try them out for yourself. You might like them.

Good point. I'm going off to college after this year too and I know I'll need a headphone only amp. My Roland has a headphone jack, but maybe getting a pod would also be more efficient, in terms of room. A 1x12 can take up a lot of room in a doubles college dorm room. Hmmmmmm.
