POD -> USB Fast track -> audacity help needed please!!

I'd like to setup my home recording system this way:
Guitar --> pedals --> POD --> amplifier
and then the POD -> Fast track USB --> Audacity

But I have NO clue as how to make this work I'm affraid... I tried the headphone output of the FTUSB into the mic output of the laptop (no line in) and I couldn't really get it to work. So any help is welcome... thanks!

Why not just record from the POD?

It's a 2.0, it's got no USB port or anything. Only thing I could do would be plug in the second output into the mic input on the laptop, and it's not tone friendly at all.

I'm not sure why you want to put the amp in there ... can you explain?

Simply so I can hear myself The POD has 2 outputs so it's not the problem.

maybe the usb has a high buffer time. In nuendo at least I had to put the asio buffer quite a lot lower the first time I used it.

The buffer time for the FT usb is at the quickest right now. I can't make it any faster.

AHHH Crap this is pissing me off...
Basically what I'd like to do is be able to record using audacity while hearing my sound from the amplifier. So for this I need no latency. And also I need to match the output of both devices. Problem, the POD only seems to have enough output if I actually crank up the output level, at which point the amplifier is out of the question if I want to hear the sound. So I could instead have it so that I get both guitar AND backing track/sound from Audacity on the PC, but I can only seem to use the Fasttrack USB as a standalone soundcard and I'd have to plug the speakers into it. But then the sound would come from the laptop's speaker (for some reason, songs don't play when I select the FT as the PC's soundcard. No idea why).

Would any other free recording softwares be better suited for this? I'd need it to be able to read and play normal songs and backing tracks of most formats so I can play on top (AND hear myself) and record directly from there...any help with the existing Audacity/FT usb setup is welcome too, thanks...

I've been using Audacity for recording. I run my POD direct to an Audigy sound card and listen to what I'm recording via headphones or studio monitors. Latency is not an issue.

It's not the software, it's the fact that you're trying to monitor through your amp. You need an output from the computer instead of the pod. Doesn't your laptop have a headphone jack? Use some headphones through that and monitor the sound that's actually being fed into the computer. If you still have latency issues with that I don't know what it could be cuz I've never used anything from m-audio.

I've tried this too, and that was when the latency occured. The sound played a full second after I played it on the guitar when I recorded. And I use computer speakers through the headphone jack, so yeah I can hear it if I set it all up right.

It's definitely latency between the fastrack and your soundcard then. Do you have all the correct asio drivers installed? Actually, I'm unsure as to whether you need asio for that program.

Listen, pm me and we'll troubleshoot this over msn or aim. Even if we don't end up fixing the problem we can at least try. I had latency issues when I first installed my soundcard so I know how annoying this can be.
