Re: PoD xt live OMG!
TUBES and DIGITAL have both become quite relevant
With tube amps the problem is that it takes a lot of money, time, and work to get that certain tone. Digital is fast, cheap, and easy. On the flip side, you may get a broad frequency specrum from a modeler, you will never get that perfect recipe of rich harmonics, and the randomness of trying different mics, angles, cabs, etc.
As far as thinking the POD sounded better than your rig - hmmm most gtr players have never heard their own rigs. I have liked my modelers better than my Marshalls til someone A/B'd them for me while I stood 20 ft away and listened - that's when I realized you can't deny a great tube amp.
If artificial has clearly, flat out, won the battle - then why not eat processed chicken, cheese, and wash it down with some equal and powdered milk? Obviously there is something good left in having the real thing.
Ultimately, few good producers would pass up tubes for digital, esp on a well-funded album.
