PoD xt live OMG!

Re: PoD xt live OMG!

TUBES and DIGITAL have both become quite relevant

With tube amps the problem is that it takes a lot of money, time, and work to get that certain tone. Digital is fast, cheap, and easy. On the flip side, you may get a broad frequency specrum from a modeler, you will never get that perfect recipe of rich harmonics, and the randomness of trying different mics, angles, cabs, etc.

As far as thinking the POD sounded better than your rig - hmmm most gtr players have never heard their own rigs. I have liked my modelers better than my Marshalls til someone A/B'd them for me while I stood 20 ft away and listened - that's when I realized you can't deny a great tube amp.

If artificial has clearly, flat out, won the battle - then why not eat processed chicken, cheese, and wash it down with some equal and powdered milk? Obviously there is something good left in having the real thing.

Ultimately, few good producers would pass up tubes for digital, esp on a well-funded album.

Re: PoD xt live OMG!

Bass down, mids up, presence up a touch, treble down a touch, gain down a bit, volume to 10 o clock or so, output to taste.

ill try that thanks!

Re: PoD xt live OMG!

yeah 8 o clock is a bit to low for mids.. try 10 or 11
and make sure your channel volume is DOWN and your master volume is UP
MAKE SURE!

Re: PoD xt live OMG!

BTW, on Mesa amps the "volume" knob is channel volume (or preamp) and "output" is master volume, if that hadn't become apparent by now. I personally like my mids much higher, at least around 2 o'clock, but you can play around and see what you prefer.

Re: PoD xt live OMG!

well it all comes down to what kind of music the person plays for mids.. just dont keep em below 9 o clock!..unless your slipknot

well i went out last friday to a local club and they had a live band playing covers, so i got closer to check out the guitarist rig 'cause it sounded pretty sick, well the guy was playing thru a pod live straight to the mixer (PA) , i swear it souded better than my freakin mesa recto , and then last night i went to cheers and they had a live band and the guy was playing thru a boss gt8 and it sounded better than my amp (straight to the pa too) so whats the deal with this things?? any comments! i wanna buy one but do i need to buy a PA? thanks! BTW they were loud!

I too have seen guys playing in bars with Multifx units and have been blown away by the tones some guys get out of them.... I saw a band playing and a guy had a Berhinger Pro Vamp... it sounded great... he says if you play and tweek the settings the Berhinger works really well... i believe him after hearing them....

I've seen guys with Line6 stuff too sounding amazing.... i saw 3 Canadian artists last summer in one night... Goddo, Kim Mitchell and David Wilcox..... The new guitarist for Goddo had a line 6 Flextone III and it sounded amazing! The next guy to get up after teh Goddo show used a JCM800 stack and he his guitar sounded awful until about 1/2 way thru the show... the sound guys were messing with the mic on the cab a fair bit... About Halfway the sound guys had a good sound coming out front... The guy with the Line 6 just plugged in the back of the amp and sounded great

I myself have found that those Modeler FX units sound best thru a PA, Dierct Recording, or into a Keyboard amp as the Keyboard amp is a Full range amp like a PA almost.. The Keyboard amp reproduces what sounds the Keyboards soundbank offers.... i think of a POD as a Keyboard soundbank for Guitar.... The singer in my last band used a Pod thru his Keyboard amp, he played Keys too... he liked the Pod much more then his Fender Deville amp!!!!

Re: PoD xt live OMG!

First of all, ditch the JJ preamp tubes. They are WAY too dark for a Recto. Pickup some EH12AX7s. You'll be much happier. Next, try these settings:

Vintage Mode:
CH Mast: 11:00
Pres: 10:00
Bass: 11:00-11:30
Mids: 11:00
Treb: 12:00-1:00
Gain: 2:00-3:00
Verb to taste- I usually don't use verb on my gain channels. That should give you a good hard rock/ metal tone.
