PODxt + Atomic or Studio Monitors?

Hey everyone. I am reallly tired of listening to my POD through my headphones all of the time. Should I go with a pair of flat response studio monitors or an Atomic amp to amplify my PODxt? Which setup would sound better? I am willing to spend at max $300 on studio monitors. How much is an Atomic amp for the POD/other preamp modelers? How loud do the Atomic amps get? Keep in mind that I am also in college and have neighbors.

Atomics new are $499.00 but you see them sell regularly on ebay for around $300, i was using one with a Vox TonlabSE pedal board and it sounded good, very directional though - there are other guys on the boards that have used the tech21 trade 60 with good results - those are around three bills new.
