Both are a bit thin for my tastes, and both have a totally different vibe... I'm actually having a hard time deciding which I like better.

I must like thin too. Both sound good to me but I prefer the Engl.

Yea, I like the ENGL more.. just real tube amps do their magic better than computers. I do like both tones, but since Ive been playing on my line6 for 3 years now Im very used to the tone it produces. Very consistent on the picks, no variation on the bends, comes out the same every time. Tube amps pick up the nuances so much more. The ENGL sounds like it has a little too much mids, but definately more lively than the POD. I liked the playing too, thanks for doing this.

I actually prefered the XT tones. But like Vk said, they're not really similar enough for it to be a fair comparison.


I think a MUCH more interesting poll would be the SAME sorta deal XT vs. Real Amp......But don't tell anyone which is which Until After the poll's over. Get a much more honest opinion out of people. As it is, knowing whats what before hand, Most people are gonna be Biased towards the "Real" amp.

it interesting that amidst posts preferring the Engl, the votes are 4:2 for the PodXT.

The Screamer breathes a ton more and is more open sounding..but I like the smoothness and "compact" tone of the Pod in this round :)

Great playing on both clips.

Engl sounds alot better, more organic and complex. The PodXT sounded fat but very compressed and with less character.

The ENGL definately sounds cleaner.
I don't know if it 'breathes' more, I can't really tell.
I like the POD because it has a bit more grit.

I like my peavey tube amp better than my pod, but when I record them I can't really tell the difference.

The Engl sounds awesome and very organic. The PodXT was buzzy and lacking that special "something." But, in both cases your playing was fantastic!

I think PODs can sound great too, so this is without bias: The ENGL clip just seemed to me to have a much better tone all around. It was way bigger than the tiny POD XTlive tone, smoother, rounder... just better. I think it might be different if the POD was recorded through a cab with a mic though.

The PodXT is like the frozen pizza of the guitar world. It reminds you of the real deal, but when directly compared with real pizza there's no competition.

If that were a blind test I would have easily picked the Engl's sound clip.
