The PodXT is like the frozen pizza of the guitar world. It reminds you of the real deal, but when directly compared with real pizza there's no competition.

If that were a blind test I would have easily picked the Engl's sound clip.

except the clips are actually reversed fro what it says they are !

Well, I preferred whatever he's using in the "Engl" clip. It's got that 3D touch-sparkle thing going on. Really nice.

The dynamics of the guitar seem to shine through better in the Engl clip. The PODxt's tone seems to have more bite or, as someone else put it, more buzz. (Whether or not that's a good thing is up to the listener's discretion.)

As said on TGP, I like the Screamer, more hairy and more depth to it!

OP: The two tones are totally different. Both are usable, but I prefer the brightness of the Engl clip.

I find my PodXT is great for effects laden stuff. The Vox Tonelab is the best of both worlds-tubes and modeling for vintage-type amps

Both sound great, I too like the more organic nature of the ENGL, but the POD is nice, especially if you were playing a small gig, it's a lot easier to control.

I agree that they're totally different... even though they were intended to sound similar. I guess i should clarify my earlier response. If it were a blind test, I would pick the more organic tone of clip two (Engl) over clip one (POD XT). It sounds more open, warm, and organic to my untrained ear. I have heard the POD nail some amps though.

I agree that the tones are too different to make a true comparison. I also agree with those saying it should be a blind test. Not that everyone would vote differently, but not given the chance to apply preconceived notions to the voting, the outcome might be a little different.

Or even switching the two tones would be a great way to see who votes with their ears and who doesn’t.

All that said, I liked them both, but it’s too hard to compare the two totally different sounds, especially with YouTube quality audio.

both are nice clips but you cant beat the real deal
so the Amp clip will win hands down..

Both are very nice. I like the Engl, but the playing is just top notch on both.

I don't understand how people could actually like the Pod more. I'm not saying I disliked it, I liked it very muhc. But in a direct comparison between the two, the Engl blows it away.
