Polepiece lenght Pickup

Hi! Lately I installed short polepiece screws to my JB. I noticed that with short polepieces sounds more brighter and more tight.
I always want to E6 sound brighter and more tight but e1 more dark/ heat.
If I do this mod (picture) I should get brigter E6 and gradually darker sound thinner strings?
Ps. sorry for my English I'm from Poland

If you decide to do this, you might experiment with it a bit. There are lots of theories on pickup stagger, and what one person likes, another person hates. Let us know what you find out, though.

in theory, yes you would get something along the lines of what you want but it will be a fairly subtle difference. you might notice an attack difference as much as tone. if it was me, i might do short screws on the wound strings and longer screws on the plain strings

In a nutshell: not really. The effect you're hearing now is most probably caused by the short screws being made of different alloy than the original screws.

if it was me, i might do short screws on the wound strings and longer screws on the plain strings

I tried it. But I was not happy with the result, because D string sounds brighter than G strings.

In a nutshell: not really. The effect you're hearing now is most probably caused by the short screws being made of different alloy than the original screws.

I cuted original polepieces too and it sounds more bright and with more tight low end.

Clipping the screws short merely makes the magnetic field stronger between the pickup and the string. The difference you hear is due to the a slightly higher output, and a very slightly greater string pull. Raising the screws closer to the string should have a similar effect to clipping the screws shorter.

You could try black oxide allen set screws. Those things worked wonders for my invader as far as tightening and brightening. I do believe the thread pitch is different on the invader compared to the JB however.
