Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

Again - Phase/Flange/Chorus. It's like asking which you prefer; Chocolate, Vanilla, or Strawberry? It's all ice cream and it's all sweet and delicious baby!

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

For me - A good Lezlie sim. For convenience/real estate sake, I generally keep a chorus or Hartman Flanger on my board. Also have 3 pedals hooked together not on a board with a modulated delay that satisfies.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

Analog Phaser/Flanger, but only if it has a mix/level knob. I really don't care for the syrupy tone of MXR, because you can't turn down the wet/dry aspect (I might have that wrong).

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

My particular modulation effect is just a good Vibe effect (as Dry Bell Vibe Machine v.1) but, my vote for any kind of modulation effect goes to Strymon Möbius.

I have a Vibe Machine and I've got a Mobius coming late this week/early next week. I can't wait to compare them, though I don't think the Mobius's Vibe machine will compare to the authenticity of the Vibe Machine.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

My first stomp box was a Ross Phaser, and it still rocks. I have three phasers on my pedalboard right now. I thin my brain is trying to tell me something...

...I need more distortion!

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

Currently I prefer using a flanger (MXR 117R) but I'm thinking of adding a Univibe as well...

+1. Depends what I'm playing and what is required.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

I don't use any of these (just delays or reverbs for me) but I owned a phaser a long time ago and dug it

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

This is an easy question for me to answer - amplitude modulation FTW. The first pedal I ever bought was a Boss TR-2 and now I have a Fulltone. I rarely use modulation effects, but when I do it's usually tremolo.

That said, I used light chorus while recording acoustic guitar for a friendgirl this past weekend.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

Univibe may be my favorite, but the places where it actually sounds right are few and far between. As far as modulation I can use often, it'd probably be phaser. I had a vintage Phase 45 as my first phaser which was incredible. I kinda miss it now that I think about it. I got a phase 90 back then too and had the both of them on my first pedalboard, the contrast was nice and that was where I first developed my affinity for phase. For the last year I've owned a Infanem Faye Sing which was a lot lot lot of fun. I would have kept it but I opted instead for a Strymon Mobius as I feel it will cover all of my modulation bases better and less expensively than all of the analog pedals I would need in my current situation. I've heard great things about the Mobius's Phaser machine (along with the flanger, which gives me hope as I had an Orbit that I wasn't the biggest fan of) so I'm hoping it will do something akin to the Faye Sing but if not I might have to get that one later down the road. It had a really unique tone that I loved.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

I definitely agree with Ace with the Trem being the hardest to use well, I still remember my first experience with the effect: my initial thought was 'who the hell would want this?', but I've heard some really fantastic examples over the years. I get a lot of use out of it on some of the soul tunes we play in our set, to the point that I've been considering getting a dedicated trem pedal.

I would actually be interested in hearing what people would consider a 'good' example of a chorus pedal, because I tend to think of it in the bad 80's sense and have a skewed perception of it.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

The only modulation pedal I've never taken off my board is my Script Phase 90. Odd because I hardly ever use it, but it looks darn good sitting there all orange and rectangular. A board ain't a board without one.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

I use my Boss pedalboard for a lot of different things, but a slow phase is my go-to for funk rhythm guitar.

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

I've only used a Chorus in the last 15 years. But a few years back I had a pause 90 that was cool. But now I use a Boss CE2. I actually have two and a clone of the CE2. The clone is pretty cool it has a lamp that pulses with the speed setting but it doesn't always work. The CE2 pedals are my favorite. About two years ago I bought a danelectro vibe pedal but I kinda don't really use it it's in the box sitting on my work bench. I'll have rewire my board to use it and I really don't want yo take it all apart

Re: Poll: Best Modulation Effect

I've been using the Leslie sim on my Mobius a lot more than I thought I would. It sounds killer.
