I've always preferred a Pickguard on my Les Pauls. Nice & "cream"-y :D

Yet I see many don't these days which I suspect is because it blocks some of the pretty maple tops. Regardless I still prefer a pickguard.

You?

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

I like on alot of the guitars, especially customs, and plain tops. But sometimes you have to let that grain be seen.

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

I don't care for pickguards on most Les Pauls. I do however like the way they look on ebony ones.

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

itdepends...about 99% of the time it would come off and stay off! than said, if I had a 54 Oxblood (I will have one, one day!) I would leave the pickguard ON, I would also leave it on if I had a Custom...but on a Standard It would have to go...on a Goldtop I might leave it and I might not

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

black customs are the only ones i prefer pickguards on. thats it though

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

Customs look better with, some plaintop standards with, but mostly I like them without - especially the heavy flames.

Same ebony guitar of mine, first with, second without.

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

I like my Epi Standard better without. I scraped all of the paint off (it was blue sparkles- PUKE!!!) and it looks really cool now.

Occasionally I'll see one that looks good with a guard, but mostly I think they look bad.

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

My swamp ash Lester did'nt come equipt with one. The finish which is very thin is already starting to wear from where my finger rests on the body. That's okay cause it's mine.

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

Don't like pickguards, pretty useless to me and spoil the looks of an amazing guitar. Although I do sometimes love the looks of a chrome/mirror pickguard on a strat like John Frusciante has. Or Flame Maple pickguards, but those actually add to the looks. I find Turtle or any other color very ugly to look at

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

The first thing I did when I got home with my brand new Epi LP custom was taking that damn ugly thing off.

I do like pickguards on opaque coloured strat type guitars but IMHO a guitar looks 9 out of the 10 times better without a pickguard.

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

I think that LP's look nicer w/o the p-guard, but I find that my right hand likes the position/angle that the p-guard provides in relation to the strings.

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

I like how my flametop look at the moment, but i'll try a pickguard on it soon, i prefer the vintage look

Re: POLL: Les Paul Pickguards

if it has grain you can see i like it off. I like the look of my bluesbird without a guard too, but some solid color lps can look good with a guard and even some maple topped one but i wouldn't keep it on a guitar of mine
