poly finish on fretboard

I have an Epi Zakk Wylde Camo LP with the maple fretboard. It has a poly finish on the fretboard and I am condsidering removing it, possibly dueing a future refret. It is an incredibly bright guitar and I think that the poly contrbutes greatly to that. I wouldnt mind if it darkened up a tiny bit. Would removing the fretboards finish really make much of a difference?

The poly on the fretboard is not brightening the guitar. I'd leave it well enough alone unless you simply can't stand the way it feels. Then I would maybe dull it up a bit.

I'd actually consider yourself fortunate to have a Les Paul that is too bright. I've never, ever had that problem with a Paul. It's always the other way around. A bright guitar can be easily darkened with settings, but brightening a darker guitar is much more difficult.

I actually love the brightness since I tune down to C#. It never gets even close to muddy. I just thought that it might get a bit darker without the poly and it wouldnt be a deal breaker if it did. I know that the Gibson version of the that guitar has an unfinished fretboard and I kinda like the look of a maple board when it starts getting dirty.
