Pondering a Tele parts build. No, I'm not crazy!

For the first time, I've found myself loving a Mexican Fender, the new Joe Strummer Relic Tele. From what I've seen and heard, there is virtually no difference in quality between a $2400 Custom Shop neck and the 66 neck on this Strummer model. It's a handcrafted relic that just happens to be made in Mexico, and it's got no tacky finish...bare wood. Also, it has completely rusty hardware that I really like the look of.

I really love the ash body on my US Schecter, as well as the Chubtone pickups in it, but I'm not fond of the slim taper neck on it.

I'm able to get the Strummer model for $860 out the door.

My idea is to assemble...
Schecter ash body
Joe Strummer neck
Joe Strummer hardware
Chubtone III/V pickup set, using the reliced JS neck pickup cover only.
This will result in a great looking and sounding tele, equivalent to a $2000 guitar, with all the specs I want.

To recoup nearly all the money laid out, I'd sell...
Joe Strummer reliced body - $200
Schecter US neck - $200
Schecter Hardware - $85
Joe Strummer reliced pickguard - $50
Maybe the Joe Strummer pickups - $100
The original Schecter pickups I have sitting in a box....the ones pictured below. - $100

All of it would be sold on TDPRI tele forum, SD Forum, and maybe Ebay if it doesn't go quickly. When all is said and done, I'd have the tele I want, and only be out of pocket $175 or so.

The beauty of the Joe Strummer guitar is that it's like a well worn 66 tele that feels like an old pair of jeans. I just don't like the ravaged looking body it has.

Another idea, which is easier. I could just sell the entire Schecter, and buy the Strummer model. Then, sell the Strummer body, and replace it with a double bound black American 60's body. I may think about that route as well, especially if I find that the Fender and Schecter's neck pocket is different and incompatible.

I say go for it...the quality of the "higher end" MIM Fenders is crazy good...Joe Strummer Tele, Jimmy Vaughan Strat, Muddy Waters tele, Robert Cray Strat, etc.

I will say this, the relic on the JS Tele looks terrible in person on the 2 thaty I have seen in person but that said they do feel great and I woudl imagine with killer pickups they'd sound just as great.

What is it with the Tele GAS lately? I'm not immune either, I can't wait to start my Esquire build and I've been playing my Tele quite abit lately...it's my go to guitar.

The Schecter & Fender should be 100% compatible...

How much would you want for the Schecter Tele as a whole?

Not that I have any cash to spare but I miss my old Schecter USA Tele...

i have always dug that tele body of yours, joe (although i am a 'maple neck/board on tele' kinda guy) ... as long as the strummer neck will 1-1 fit on the schecter buterscotch /ash body, i'd say your plan is aces
