poor man's expensive guitars

i noticed the gretsch double jet has a chambered mahogany body, set neck, and maple top, so essentialy, with a router, you could make a les paul supreme for about half the price

has anyone else discovered similar things? Taking one guitar that's painfully similar to another more expensive one & figuring out a way to make them pretty much the same?

i'm getting a bassman first

but when i do it'll probably be the elctromatic hollowbody & I'll rout it out for some tv jones
