popping sound on amp input (vintage fender content)

Chickenwings

Alnico 6/8
yeah so when the amp is ON (not standby) when i plug into the reverb channel there is a really loud pop, then everything works fine. same if i unplug. I know its not ideal to just plug in and unplug while the amp is on, but its no big deal on my other amps, so its annoying.
The non reverb (actually converted to reverb on both channels) channel does not have this problem. Any ideas?
oh yeah btw its a 1969 twin reverb. Godly sounding amp.

Re: popping sound on amp input (vintage fender content)

nah they are all fine.
why do you reckon it happens only on one channel tho?

Re: popping sound on amp input (vintage fender content)

When is the last time you got in there to blow the dust out and hit the jacks and pots with electronics cleaner?

Re: popping sound on amp input (vintage fender content)

Could be a microphonic pre-amp valve in that one channel. (Hence, the other channel not exhibiting the same problem.)

Re: popping sound on amp input (vintage fender content)

All the great instruments of history were made of stone. Stradivarii, Steinways, Martins, Selmers. I think you are on to something.

Re: popping sound on amp input (vintage fender content)

There's a small electrolytic on the cathode of the input valve [4.7Ufd ]. That could be it.

Re: popping sound on amp input (vintage fender content)

Ive noticed it also goes "boom" when ive had it on standby to warm things up, then flip the "on" switch.

This suggests it's in the preamp of the other channel before it gets to the reverb.
