Possible to put a headstock decal on a poly finish?

On nitro, I have put the decal on, then sprayed over it with satin nitro or Poly, well, I forgot what , but it worked well. But on thick gloss Poly, can I put a decal on and put something over it?

You can shoot another coat of poly over it.

You do need a couple of coats of poly to make it look flat on the headstock. Depending on the guitar you might want to do a headstock refin. What kind of axe are we talking about here?

That is easy. Mask off the face of the headstock add your decal and add thin layers of poly until you get to the desired thickness. Be patient, even if the poly is dry, it will still be soft. Wait a few days before doing your final finishing or adding hardware.
