Possible to swap conductors?

For various reaons, none of them very good, I want to try to remove the 4-conductor wiring from one pickup (let's call it Pup "A") and attach the 4 conductors to Pup "B". "A" is a Duncan Design humbucker, "B" is an old Distortion humbucker. I'm removing the original 4-conductor wiring from Pup "B".

Any reason why swapping might not work? Any tips? Warnings? Threats?

Thanks for any help!

Re: Possible to swap conductors?

It would work fine but save yourself half of the hassle and just buy some 4-conductor wire from Stewmac (www.stewmac.com).

My question is why do you want to do this? Assuming you match the leads up right, it won't work or sound any different.

Probably wants to split the coil on the Distortion humbucker, which is no go with a 2 conductor wire.

I think you may be reading it wrong -- he seems to be saying they are both 4-conductor.

Re: Possible to swap conductors?

Ok, I'll confess. I'm trying to do a quick, dirty, and ugly fix to an extremely annoying situation. I pulled the yucky Duncan Design 'buckers out of a guitar, and dropped in my nifty Distortion set. But there was one problem... The lead on the Distortion set isn't long enough, and I didn't check before beginning the whole installation process.

I don't want to put the Duncan Design set back in, and I am impatient to get this guitar rocking again. So I'm thinking of clipping the lead of the Duncan Design set and the short lead of the Distortion set. Then I would bridge the long 4-conductor Design lead to the Distortion pups (which were already set up for 4-conductor.)

Assuming I match the leads up correctly, this should work, right? ha ha ha. in theory...

I could order new 4-conductor wire, but I don't want to wait, and I don't plan on using these Duncan Design pups again. Unlike some other Design sets I've had, these sound weak, lifeless.

But this old Distortion set - that's another story! Killer!

Thanks very much guys, for taking the time to chime in.

Cheers
