Possible Trade Options?

Alright guys, I need some help. I just can't seem to find the tone I want from my Mesa Mark IV combo. I'm not sure if it's the amp or the fact that it's a 1X12 combo. I thought the Mark IV would end my quest for amps but I think I was mistaken. First off it is much to difficult to dial in a decent tone, let alone the tone you desire. I knew this before I bought it but haven't been successful. I guess I'm not a tweaker. Secondly, I can't seem to get anywhere near the bottom end I would like. I blame this mostly on the fact that it's only a 1X12 open back combo.

So guys, what amps, heads and cabs or combos, do you recommend for me? I would like suggestions that fall in the same price range as the Mark, because I don't wanna shell out anymore cash.

So just to recap, I'm looking for a high gain amp, with decent cleans and nice tight bottom ended crunch.

Thanks

Have you tried it with different guitars? Sometimes that's the trick.

Re: Possible Trade Options?

try a closed back 1x12" extension cab ... put the (open back) combo on top and make it like a 'mini-me' stack ... i bet that'll help .. for even more oomph, maybe a 2x12" closed back cab ...

good luck,

Re: Possible Trade Options?

I had a Mark I that I felt the same exact way about.

I'm just not a big high gain guy, so i'm not going to comment any further. Someone will have some high gain advice. How about a 5150? Those things are monsters. (oops, that was advice, sorry)

I agree Lee, try a closed back 2x12. It will definitely beef up yer tone, at minimum a 1x12.

Peace,
