Hey guys,
So I have a Stingray 5-string from around 95 or 96. When I bought it used, it had (and still has) a Bartolini pickup (the 5-string type, without tabs) and a Bartolini preamp (the NTMB 918F I think). I really cannot get a sound to my liking out of this pickup, and I want to switch to a SD pickup. I THINK I want the alnico SMB-4a, but looking at the specs, it seems I have to get the three-coil version (since my bass is post-92), and that doesn't work with the STC preamp, which I also want to get. Is this right? Or can I use the two-coil version with my bass? I have the three position blade switch, if that helps.
So basically I am confused. Two-coil or three-coil? Or just screw it and get the 4d ceramic? Help, anyone?
Thanks,
Phil
