Trying to find the right word to describe that.....hmmm? Ugly! :eyecrazy: Kinda creative though!

I googled "ugliest guitar amp" to find it

Thanks for the offer. Wish I could help you complete your collection, but this is a lifer. My dad bought it used in the early '70's, and it was his main amp up till he died in 2007. That, and it's just a great amp. It's bone stock right down to the original power cable. The only thing is that the speaker has been reconed several times. He always reconed, rather than replaced, the speaker.

Now that belongs in your family. I will get one eventually just a matter of the right one falling into my lap...

I don´t have a pic to post Lew but one of the coolest "looking" combos I´ve ever see is a Carr Rambler (I think) in perspex so you can see the guts. Not sure how it would sound but it looks the business!

Re: Post a photo of the best looking combo amps of all time!

Hey Lew, I tried out that new Matchless Avalon 30 since they have a black head at my local store, and love it. What Matchless did is create handwired boards that are easier to work with than turret boards, so they can produce them easier and cheaper. The sound is still there, just like a C-30, but they cost half as much.

I'm not cash rich, but that used head for $1500 made my heart skip a few beats. I still love my Chieftain 2-12 combo. It's got a Mazda Belvu 12AX7 from the 50's that's the best pre tube I own.
The rest of the tubes are JJ and Tungsol.

Agree except I can do without the pimped out crushed velvet. I own a gig regularly with a 25 watt velvet combo in Black Tolex.
Here's mine!

I was very fond of my one 12 Chieftan. I loved playing it through my Matchless two 12 cab!

Although the one 12 version was more portable, an amp like that needs two 12's to sound it's best I think.

My two 50 watt JCM 800 combos always sounded a lot better than my single 12 JCM 800 too.

I'm leaning towards making two amps: both 20 watts but one with a single 12 and one with two 10's wired for 16 ohms.

I've been working on some designs - getting close!

I haven't tried the Avalon yet and likely won't since I'm not a huge fan of the C30 amps but I do know one things...the Avalon is won of the worst looking amps I've seen in a while...

To much wasted space needed to keep the speaker cab interior separate from the amp cab section.

Steve and the guys at Carr make such great amps and they always look cool too!

I think so too. Joe Perry uses a Carr according to the Carr website.

The joinery in the corners probably strong. Looks like 1" or larger fingers on the sides and 3/4" on the top.

I saw a video that a European amp company filmed of two amp cabs being thrown from a second story window.

One was biscuit joined and the other was dovetailed in the four corners. The dovetailed cabinet exploded on impact and the biscuit joined cab was ruined but held together much better.

I love the Mesa with the wood cabinets and wicker cane grills...

But these Trillium amps take it to a whole other level

Carr makes some really great stuff...the Hammerhead MK II is still one of the best overdrive amps I've ever played and some days I wish I'd pulled the trigger on one of them before they stopped making them!

The cab thing is a given...the bigger the fingers in the joints the better. Carr cabs used to be made by Peter Mather but a few years ago Steve had himself an in house wood shop made.

The Mater cabs were very good but Steve wanted to start doing it all in house to save money.
