Post pics of your Les Paul's

Actually... the most interesting guitars aren't even here I think.

* Ash body, maple top with F-Holes, 3 pickups, trem, trans white finish, rosewood neck.
* purpleheart top, walnut back, ebony neck
* walnut carved top and back, chambered, F-Holes (will get a new neck!)
* 1 piece flamed maple top on honduras mahogany back in trans purple with a trem (will get a new neck!)
* 1 piece flamed maple top on honduras mahogany back in charcoal purple with tune o matic (will get a new neck!)
* 1 piece walnut top on black korina body with a cocobolo neck and 3 pickups (might get a new neck one day)
* a set of 2 LP's: beach top, chestnut back, sycamore necks and walnut boards. (will get new necks!)

Plus a WHOLE slew of LP's I am still working on but can't be arsed to complete right now because I'm fully exhausted and spent ;)

Amaterasu, a Guitar Trader pre-Historic. After 38 years together, still my all-time favorite LP.
Showing some serious wear now. But her scars were earned in battle.

this one shows her top in a better light
nice lookin lp. are the inlays about the color in the first pic? yours is one of the few other lps that ive seen with zebra neck and covered bridge. is there a reason? for me, when i put the antiquitys in mine, i wanted a little more cut in the neck so pulled off the cover and put an a3 in. sounds fantastic. my plan was to put a full strength a2 in the bridge as well but it sounds so damn good as it is, i struggle to pull the trigger so it stays covered

These are my lesters. The first one is a 1990 standard (completely stock),
the second one is a VGS eruption pro customized with the Zakk Wylde EMG set (18V)

The Third one is my #1 guitar, a 2004 standard with a 59A4 and a C8. I sold my 2003 classic one week ago, so no photo for that one because it's not with me anymore...

there was black and gold, then in 58 there was sunburst and from 58-60 there was only sunburst, what we call cherry sunburst these days. every sunburst les paul was cherry when it left the factory. all those finishes that people love now were due to the way they did the bursts back in the day. the 58 and 59 bursts washed out relatively quickly but at some point gibson changed their methods so the later models held their color better.

Interesting. For a Les Paul, black and gold were the only standard colors. All the others (bursts, white, cherry, natural, etc.) were non-standard when they first appeared.

Yeah, the standard classic colors never did anything for me. I dig the deep blues, purple, dark reds, etc. Or exotic natural woods.

Yah, the inlays yellowed quite a bit over the decades - live shows used to be smoky, and this axe & I have done more than a thousand sets together.

She's had a couple of pickup swaps. Her original Gibson Shaws sounded fantastic but squealed terribly at stage volume; at the time I was performing six nights a week and needed the guitar for a daily player. I replaced the Shaws with Duncan 59s almost immediately. The 59s didn't have the dry vintagey crispness of the Shaws, but they gave extra chunk & body with no squealing and a bit more output. A better match with my other instruments - I've always tried to avoid tweaking my rig for guitar changes.

I wanted that extra little bit of air & brightness from the neck. IME bridge pickups usually sound plenty bright with a cover.

Eventually I mag swapped the Duncans: A4 neck and UA5 bridge. A noticeable improvement, though I later replaced them with Pure Handwounds from Zhangbucker, an A3 Pagey II neck and A2 Brownbucker bridge. They'll be staying I think. (Although given today's far lower stage volumes, I might just try my Shaws in it again someday.)

That neck is extremely lively and the guitar sings beautifully regardless of pickup choices. To me, it's a near-perfect Les Paul.

I'm running a set of Anitquities in one of my PRSs. I too have occasionally considered a full strength mag for the bridge.
