This might have been done before but for all of you out there who own a modded Telecaster, I'm curious to know the pups you have in it and why you chose them. (I'm thinking of modding my current Telecaster so I'm looking for the best ones).

thanks in advance

Re: Post Tele pups

I have a set of Custom Shop pickups in mine...the bridge is Alnico II and it is tapped, the tap is at 6.2k and full on it is 9.26k flat poles, and cloth wire. The neck pickup is Alnico 5 7.8k, traditional Tele cover, cloth wire. I have a 5 way switch wich gives me the normal 3 Tele sounds as well as the bridge full on, and the bridge ful on with the neck. I love them and could not be happier!

Re: Post Tele pups

I don't know if its really proper to refer to this as a Tele per se, but I like it. (Its shortcomings, notwithstanding.)

I've put a pair of Quarter Pounds, (tapped), in the neck and middle, and a Custom 5 in the bridge. The QP's together, (neck & middle), while tapped is a very rich, smooth sound, thats not really Tele-esk. The neck and bridge together, however, is a very nice "twangy", yet full tone, that I love. Again, with the QP tapped. The C5 by itself, strikes me as very Tele like.

(But I should qualify this by saying that I've never owned a real Tele.) :)

Re: Post Tele pups

i put a set of 'vintage stack for tele' pickups in my tokai 52ri clone ... i chose them because i wanted an authentic tele sound, but noiseless ... i did the 4 way switch too(very cool) ... i am very happy with them

you say you want 'the best ones' .... that will depend on your needs ... tell us more of what kind of tone you are hoping for and what kind of music you will be playing, and we can guide you a bit more

good luck

Re: Post Tele pups

Hmmm well think Jimmy Page on Zeppelin 1. That would be perfect. Now I've already posted a thread similar to this and Lew suggested the Fralin Blues specials. I'm also looking for something like hendrix's tone on "Purple Haze" for the neck pickup.

Re: Post Tele pups

hmmm, well, i'd defer to lew ... he did a wonderful thread a few months back (check the vault or do a search) on 'the ultimate tele pickups' or somesuch ... lots of useful info there .. he's forgotten more about tele pups than i'll ever know and has years of actual experience on the real deals from when they were new ... take his recommendations and you WILL have amazing tone

cheers

Re: Post Tele pups

My favorite Duncans are the Antiquity I Tele pickups and the Custom Shop set MJ wound for me. I also like the Jerry Donahue bridge pickup alot.

The Fralin Blues Specials are also favorites of mine.

Re: Post Tele pups

I have a Voodoo 60's in one of mine (Esquire) and I think I'm going to put an Antiquity I in the other one.

Wow! Thanks for the kind words. :)

I love Teles...been playing them for about 35 years. Saw that Roy Buchanan show on PBS about 1970 and that did it.

Re: Post Tele pups

Lew helped me chose the Antiquity set. It was a toss up between those and the Tele HOT Tapped set.... ordered the pups through Lew too!!!

thanks lew. :)

Re: Post Tele pups

You are welcome! I'm sure you'll love 'em. Duncan sure makes some great Tele pickups and the Antiquitys are as good as they get. Thanks again, Lew
