Either ergonomic sci-fi designs (like the ones below) or just plain wacky.

Here is a Klein:

I gotta say, the Klein is the lightest, most ergonomic guitar I may ever play- it truly became part of my body. The sound (it was hollowed out spruce) vibrated to my toes too, like I was sitting in one of those massage chairs. It was also $3500 used. Yeah, it looks funny (like the other ones) but I love foward thinking designs.

This is a Wandre. I'd love to have one. Played by Nashville great Buddy Miller, who plays with Emmylou Harris. Buddy sounds over the top awesome playing his Wandres through his old AC-30's. Wandre was an artist who designed guitars in the 60's...haven't been made in many years. Last one I saw that was for sale was hanging in the window of a pawn shop in Detroit about 30 years ago. American Showster A57 - found a red one in GC hollywood and it played AWESOME and sounded GREAT.

I've seen a Quebec singer called Jean Leloup play with one of these live.... He sounded great!

No kiddin'? The only guy I've ever seen play one was Buddy Miller, and like your buddy Jean Leloup, he sounded great. I think Wandre was Italian maybe? The one I saw in a hock shop on Woodward Ave in Detroit about 1967 or 68 had a speaker built into it! I remember seeing a 60's Japanese guitar once with a speaker built into it too...maybe a Tiesco or Guyatone of some kind. But this was a Wandre.

I think they might be fairly valuable these days...they're sure rare enough!

Actually the first ones posted are supposed to be awesome ergonomic guitars, although I have only tried the Klein (I want one of those!!)..Guitarist David Torn uses the 3rd one I posted, and he says it is the best guitar he has ever played...so who knows. If someone builds a better mousetrap, I have no problems buying one if I could afford it.

I was just hitting random on College Humor and this popped up.

That reminds me of a travel guitar I designed but never built with a body shaped like a pixy; the speakers and controls are on her wings, and the pickups are strategically positioned to conceal her naughty bits. Maybe if I ever built one, I'll dig up this thread and post a pic, though I doubt that'll ever happen.

And personally, I liked the Bender Collision Bass....
