Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

Here's a thread where you can post your prized acoustic guitars. This is my 1990 Takamine Jasmine classical guitar that I bought brand new back then for $500 with a bullet-proof hard shell case. Since it's basically 28 years old now the wood has had time to season and the guitar sounds very vibrant and resonant. I think it's a top-notch instrument and it plays beautifully.

This is my 2011 Taylor W14ce-LTD. It was one of the fall 2011 special editions. I bought it in 2014 as a gift to myself after receiving my first management year end bonus with Chase. I had a Ltd. Edition 314ce years ago and have always missed it. This is flamed walnut back and sides and Sitka top. It has the prior years 900 series appointments. It has a nice warm, clear voice.

Nice...Taylor guitars from what I read are fine quality instruments. I think they even have a bolt on necks.

Re: Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

Here is my cast, in order of appearance:

“Anita“ is an early 70s Estrada Deluxe C13 classical guitar. She used to belong to my mom and she’s the guitar that I first picked up and learn how to play.

“Betty“ is an early 80s Applause AA-31-5 and is the first guitar of my own… My folks bought it for me when I was 16. This guitar also introduced me to the round back guitars of the Ovation family which I have grown to love.

“Holly“ is a 2002 Ovation Celebrity Deluxe CS257 that my wife bought for me for our first anniversary. This one is probably my favorite of all my acoustic instruments... and she’s a looker too!

“Jewel“ is a 2005 Ovation Celebrity Standard CC045 12-string. This guitar can REALLY throw some sound, with 12 strings and the full-sized bowl.

And finally, “Mandy“ is a cheap ass Galveston mandolin.

Re: Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

This is the only acoustic I own. I love it because it plays just like an electric. Very comfortable feel, I could never get used to the big body acoustics with chunky necks. The neck on here is just like a thin Charvel.

Rory...... thank you. I meant to post earlier that I love the woodgrain on the back of your guitar, it's very warm and striking; but I remembered an errand I had to run and rushed out of the house. 28 years is a nice long time for an acoustic to season as well, I bet it sounds great.

There seems to be two types of people when it comes to acoustics.... Martin fans and Taylor fans. I gravitated towards Taylor because I find the necks more comfortable and they play easier than many other acoustics.....I don't have to fight it as much. Also, you're correct about the neck. It's a Taylor invention and it is set in, but not glued in.... it's bolted on the inside of the body. I don't recall all of the details, but it's incredibly stable and can be taken off for maintenance if needed, or for replacement. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Re: Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

I only have a couple acoustics...

"Lirael" is a 1998 Guild DV6. I bought her with my financial aid change check in the Fall of 2002 and installed a D-Tar Timberline in 2005.

"Arielle" is a 1975 Guild G212 that I found on craigslist for $400 last year.

All those guitars look great...especially the green Ovation guitar. Your mother's classical guitar looks like it's in mint shape for be a 70's model. I bet it sounds pretty loud being that old. I love classical guitar. I took classical guitar classes back in high school for 2 years and I was really attracted to the instrument which lead me to get my own. I learned a lot of music theory which I found very helpful in mastering the instrument. BTW...I really dig the mandolin you have.;)

Re: Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

I don't have any high end (or even mid level) acoustics, but I love the way mine they play!

I have several acoustic guitars this is by far the most unique and unusual one. Ovation Snake.
Voyage-air fold up travel guitar that is kind of unique also.

This pic's a few years old. Cheap Uke--->Yamaha Nylon String (about 4yrs old)----------->Taylor 310CE (18 years old)----->Yamaha FG-335 (about 32 years old)

Re: Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

I think both of those are nice. Alvarez is known for making very good acoustic guitars, so even if you have a lower end model, it's likely to still be very good; and it's beautiful. Same with the Balladeer 12 string. For years I wanted an Ovation acoustic, especially like that green one posted above, but I could never afford one when I was younger. Ovations are fine playing guitars that play more effortlessly than many other acoustics. Ease of playability is what drew me to Taylor, but even the 300 series of guitars are not cheap, at over $1000 used.

I think you should be very happy with what you have.

Re: Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

That is a cool story and I think the looks of the guitar are fantastic, like it's had a full life. Nice solution to filling the cracks and adding the lacquer. I bet it sounds amazing!

I'm told it's a 1950's Gibson Country Western. I remember as a small child my dad telling me about these crazy rockstars smashing their guitars on stage so I used to imagine that's what happened to this. In reality it got too dried out and the wood cracked, but the imagination of child made a much more interesting image :) So after sitting around since the early 70s I thought I'd see about making it playable again. All the luthiers told me it would cost way too much to restore so I ended up filling in the cracks with sawdust and PVA and spraying the top with lacquer. It had a rectangular hole cut in the side so I curved a piece of mahogany and glued it in place. New tuning key knobs and a nut and it sounds great. I got rid of a Yamaha from Fujigen Gakki plant and an Ibanez because I liked this much better.

Re: Post Your Acoustic Guitars...

I love my Marin but the shorter scale of the Hummingbird is so much easier on my fingers
Plays like an electric
Some day I’d kind of like to get a slope shouldered mahogany Gibson to pair with it. However, this Martin is one of the best guitars I’ve ever heard. When I play it I think “nothing could sound better than this!” so why even look?
